Makiri's POV
They were surprisingly calm staring at me and that was unnerving.
When Mom had summoned me I didn't think it was to serve me some fried chicken and coleslaw which she knew I hated. Deep down inside I knew it was connected to the date I'd had with Enrique Sulvana. But seeing them smile at me and urge me to eat some more I'm beginning to rethink.

"Makiri" Susanna began "Enrique called and....."
I braced myself because usually when she talks like this it means another prospective suitor had yet again rejected me.
"Well he said that everything can continue according to the plan" she giggled
I blinked twice
"I can't believe I'm saying this Makiri buh you're getting married" Mom added
Dad bluffed "Don't congratulate her yet wait till she makes it to her honeymoon which we didn't plan"
I stuffed my mouth with food just to avoid saying something I shouldn't as Mom and Susanna blabbered while Dad complained the more like the grumpy man he is. But I'm not complaining for once in this house they ignored me.

Even if this marriage wouldn't work out I'll forever be grateful to Enrique for saving me for once from my own  family.

▪️▪️▪️
Enrique's POV
I slumped into the chair opposite Dad and watched him sigh
"So I-" I paused unsure then I began again "I've agreed to marry her and I've informed her parents"
"I thought you didn't feel for her 'that way'??"
"I don't but..."
"Enrique marriage requires that you feel. It is 'that feeling' that'll make you know you made the right choice especially during dark days"
I raised a brow
"Dad no offense buh you felt 'that way' for Mum and you guys didn't even make it to your honeymoon so can you still say that 'that feeling' guarantees a happy and lasting marriage??"
He breathed and I continued
"Dad all I'm saying is that this marriage will have it's rules and regulations which will be stated in a contract and signed by the both of us with our lawyers as witnesses. It's more for her own security you know and mine too"
He nodded
"You are 26 Enrique and I trust you. I also trust that I trained you well enough to know better than to remind me about your mother's betrayal in such an astute way"
He said then he stood up and walked out. I didn't apologise because I know that the earlier he comes to terms with the pain Mom caused him the earlier we'll know what's broken and how to try and mend it.

▪️▪️▪️
Leilani's POV
After another hectic day at work I dragged my tired self home and fell straight on my bed.
Was about to doze of when Mum thought that'll be the best time to burst into the room with Louisita squealing. I tiredly turned over and massaged my forehead.
"What's going on??" I asked
"I dunno I just saw Mom squealing and joined her" I rolled my eyes. Typical Louisita.
Anyways after Mum finished rolling her eyes she said "Leilani Aundrei Xelani has agreed to the alliance"

I just breathed in and said "Ok".
I remembered how important this was for Mum regarding her debt so I just smiled and decided to go back to sleep but Mum didn't agree.
"This calls for a celebration Lani. Come come I made Ladoos, Pakoras, Halwa, Koftas, Rotis and most importantly Pani Puris your favourite"
I groaned "I just wanna sleep" But in a flash I was off the bed and rushing downstairs. It's not often Mom makes Pani Puris so I have to savour it while it lasts.

Aundrei's POV
"Mom I've accepted the alliance and I've informed her family can I just please be left alone??"
I'd just accepted the alliance 30 minutes ago only for Mom to march to my door and start banging on it like an MSA freak.
Now what does she want you might ask. She wants us to begin wedding planning like what the heck?? I locked the door, brought down my blinds, put my phone on airplane mode and put on my noise cancellation headphones.
Eventually she grew weary and left me to be by myself. Or so I thought because few minutes later I heard a knock and reluctantly opened it.

My younger sisters Litchi and Tekoa walked in
"We heard you're getting married soon" Litchi began
"You heard??" I asked raising a brow
"Ok ok we overheard buh it's the same thing" Tekoa chipped in
"When do we get to see her??" They asked and I sighed taking them out
"It's late. Go to bed" I said slamming my door. All this is too much on me and I'm not even married yet!!!

A Month Later
▪️▪️▪️
Makiri's POV
A month had passed and Enrique and I had talked a good number of times. We were starting to see each other as friends too bad we will be married soon.
Nimi did not approve of all the means my family had decided to use to make sure that I got married and that they recovered all their money back and that had caused a very visible strain in our relationship.
Anyways as I made sure I looked presentable in my mirror for the umpteenth time I grabbed my gift and proceeded to my car. Today's Idara's birthday and I plan to attend. I'm hoping I'll get another chance to talk with Nimi.

▪️▪️▪️
I had to say Idara has lots of friends because the place was packed. She spent her time moving from clique to clique welcoming some, giggling with some and taking photos with some. She's such a bubbly Belle.
Somewhere close to one of the refreshment stands I saw Anthony and Nimi so I picked up my gown and walked over to them.
"Makiri" Anthony called smiling at me
I smiled back "I came to congratulate the parents of the 5 year old celebrant"
I presented my gift "Here for Idara"
Anthony laughed as I always fail to pronounce her name rightly. "Thanks" he said accepting the gift and excusing himself leaving me and Nimi alone

"Nimi Hi-"
She rudely walked off leaving me behind. Even though my back was turned to her I was sure she hadn't gone far so I said
"Nimi we're adults. Let's talk about everything that's going on please" Then I picked up my gown and walked away before she could reply.

My phone binged and as I tried fishing it out from my bag I bumped into.....
"Aundrei??"
He chuckled and let go
"Is that all I get no 'Sorry I didn't mean to bump into you' or 'Thanks for not letting me fall and break all my bones'??"
I laughed "I'm sorry; Where are my manners?? Thanks for helping me really and I'm sorry I bumped into you"
He smirked "It's fine."
"I am actually surprised to see you here tho" I added
"Ant's my friend too you know"
I smiled "Ok so I'm not so surprised anymore"
He smiled
"By the way congratulations on your alliance Makiri"
I shivered in remembrance. "You too Aundrei"
(About a week ago 2 alliances were publicly announced
Makiri Delano with Enrique Sulvana
And Aundrei Xelani with Leilani Jordan.
It's a common thing tho in our circle of life to have alliances and matchmakings where both parties benefit equally so it wasn't much of a surprise to the public.
However these alliances were announced by our parents without our consent so yeah I still feel bad whenever I remember it.)
We chuckled. He was about to say something else but then his phone started ringing "Please excuse me"
I nodded and decided to use this time and check my own phone

Well as usual there were matters arising and as usual I was tired of handling everything.
One glance at Aundrei on his way back from his call and it seemed like we had the same problem.
He ran his hand through his hair and whispered "I'm at the edge of bankruptcy"
Ok so maybe some of us are in too deep. He was visibly paling and I feel like I should say something; anything. So I did

"Aundrei we should meet up. I'll have my secretary schedule with yours and we'll see what we can do ok?? Till then you stay calm ok??"

He nodded looking reassured. All this was new to me: reassuring others when I'm in need of reassurance too. Now I understand how hard it must have been for Nimi during my dark times....
That is why I won't give up on our friendship. I just hope we end up sorting it out like adults:- by private dialogue.
