"Samaira, come out. We are going to play a game," he said in his sickly voice, which made my skin crawl. I was disgusted, my whole face sweating with tears and sweat as I hid behind a drum, curling myself into a ball. The click-clack sound of his shoes made my heartbeat quicken with each step.

"Come on, don't play hide and seek with me," he said in a whispering tone, his footsteps echoing through the whole room. I pressed my hands over my mouth to suppress any sound, knowing that if he found me, it would all be over. No, no, no! It was my mistake-why did I come here? Why?

"Please, God, please save me," I prayed silently, hiding behind the drum as tears streamed continuously down my face, soaking my shirt.

"Caught you," he said suddenly, appearing in front of me with a creepy smile. My eyes widened in terror, my heart pounding loudly in my chest. My whole body trembled.

"Sir...h..o..w c..an," I stammered, crawling backward, but I hit the drum. It toppled over, making a loud noise. My whole body was trembling with fear; I just wanted to get out of there.

"It's okay. I'm here to teach you, like a teacher does," he said, coming closer and bending down on his knees, so close to me. I shut my eyes tightly, hoping it was just a bad dream. But no, it wasn't-it was a haunted nightmare of my life.

"And you have to learn it like a good student," he said, squeezing my cheeks hard. I jerked his hands away, only to be smacked hard across the face.

"I said, like a good student, right?" he said in a dark tone, his lips curling into a maniacal smirk. He leaned closer, reaching out and brushing his hands from mine up to my neck. The touch was so disgusting that I wanted to burn my skin. At that moment, I felt the most vulnerable I'd ever felt. I hated men. I hated this world. I hated everyone.

"S...i r...pl..ea..se," I pleaded weakly.

I jolted awake from my sleep, panting hard and struggling to catch my breath. It felt like all the air had suddenly vanished from my lungs. My whole face was soaked with tears. Why this haunted dream, God, why? I thought that now these terrible nightmares would never come back, but they haven't left me. And I feel like they never will. They say that just when you think your wounds are healing, someone or something comes along to rip them open again, leaving you with a pain that's impossible to forget. For me, these traumatic dreams do exactly that.

"Happy birthday, Jaan," a sweet voice interrupted my thoughts. I snapped my head toward the sound, only to find Veeransh standing in the kitchen, doing something.
