I woke up early for class the next morning so I could call Josh while he drove to work. He's gotten so busy that his 30 minute drive in the morning is the only time I get to talk to him these days.

I put him on speaker phone while I curled my hair at my vanity.

"So have you guys had like, steamy angry sex yet?" Josh asked almost immediately.

"God, no. We barely even look at each other." I replied, while separating a section of hair.

Josh and Anna still cannot comprehend that we broke up, and they're both deeply convinced that we'll get back together any day now. I think they're fucking insane.

"Maddie, he lives in the same house as you ... how are you managing to not cross paths with him?" he asked, genuinely confused.

I shrugged to myself. "Hell if I know. I'm just really good at avoiding people, I guess."

"Does he walk around shirtless?"

I paused after releasing a section from the curling iron. "Well, yeah. That's a normal thing that guys do ... and I live with three of them."

"Okay, but he's probably doing it on purpose so you'll stare at him."

I started laughing hysterically at Josh's hypotheticals. He's so delusional sometimes that it's genuinely comical.

"You're definitely wrong about that. And by the way, I'm not fucking him, so don't even suggest that." I snorted, already predicting what his next statement would be. I know my best friend well.

Josh let out a frustrated sigh. "Stop being such a wimp, Maddie. He moved in with you on purpose — he's literally giving you the green light to make a move on him. Otherwise he would've stayed in his apartment far, far away from you."

I rolled my eyes and finger combed through my hair. "You're insane."

"You've got to get that man back." Josh stressed to me. "That's the hottest man you're ever going to meet in your life, Maddie, and you cannot let him slip away from you."

"Josh, he broke up with me — therefore, he gets to decide if he wants to resume a relationship with me or not. I don't get to decide — he does." I spelled it out for him as clearly as I could.

"And besides ... I like Hayes now. We've been talking a lot and I'm excited to see where things go with him." I added, hoping to change the subject away from Devin.

Josh sighed. "Eh. I mean, he's hot, don't get me wrong ... but I don't know."

"He's really hot. And I'm pretty positive he knows how to ride way more than just a horse." I smirked to myself, already loving the vision playing in my mind.

Josh laughed. "Oh my god, are you ovulating?"

"Maybe."

The sound of a knock on my bedroom door broke me from the vision of Hayes fucking me raw, and I stood up to go open it.

I came face to face with Devin, wishing I could shrink and disappear. He might've just heard that entire conversation — which mortified me.

"Hey." I greeted him stiffly, wondering why the hell he knocked on my door. I didn't even move from the doorway, expecting him to say something and then leave.

Instead he glanced inside of my room for a second. "Can I come in?"

I didn't want him to come in, but telling him no would be more awkward than anything. I'm trying really hard to be more nonchalant around him.
