As Kaya and Makoto made their way toward the mansion's front door, there was a sudden knock. Kaya rolled her eyes and sighed. When she opened it, two policemen stood in the doorway with a cameraman by their side.
"Hmm... How lovely-I've got dinner right at my door!" Kaya grinned widely.
The officers just stared at her, bewildered. "Little lady, you're under arrest for destroying the forest," one of them announced.
Kaya let out a mocking laugh as they began to handcuff her. But as the cuffs clicked around her wrists, she yelled over her shoulder, "HEY YOU-THEIR BLOOD! SUCK THEIR BLOOD!"
Makoto froze, looking from Kaya to the police officers, horrified. "Wait, me? She really means me?!" Before he had time to think it through, his instincts took over. He lunged at them, sinking his fangs in and drinking until they all collapsed, fainting from shock.
He stumbled back, wiping his mouth in horror. Fantastic. I nearly got eaten, and now I'm helping her take down cops. Why am I helping her anyway..
Kaya, now freed from the cuffs, took the cameraman's equipment with a wicked grin. "Hello, everyone! Today, I, Kiyarokaya, will personally show you how to bake people!" She dragged one of the unconscious officers onto a rolling table while Makoto, dazed, tried to keep up. Am I her assistant now? Is this my life?
Kaya gestured grandly at the unconscious officer. "First, cut off the private parts, then the feet, and it's good to go!" She tossed him toward a massive oven, and Kajitsu turned up the heat. Makoto just stood there, watching in a mix of terror and disbelief.
Note to self: don't ask what's for dinner here.
"Now everyone," Kaya announced to the camera, "we wait three hours, then add spices!"
Makoto gulped, wondering how long he'd last as her "assistant." He glanced at her nervously. "You... um... you're really strong."
Kaya smirked. "Thanks, little vampire." She tried to switch off the camera, swearing at the confusing buttons and eventually scratching the machine until it cracked and died.
Finally, she turned back to Makoto, looking him over as if seeing him properly for the first time. "Okay, wait a minute-what's your name again?"
"Makoto, miss," he mumbled, almost too stunned to speak.
She nodded, smirking. "Alright, Makoto, you can go. But don't you dare tell anyone."
He looked away nervously, then let out a weak laugh. "Uh... actually, I'm... homeless."
Kaya raised an eyebrow. Oh, great, she thought, he wants to stay here? When I almost baked him? Finally, she sighed. "Want to stay here?"
His face lit up. "Really? I'd love to! Just, um... please don't kill me?" He gave her his best puppy-eyed look, which probably worked a lot better on someone less... well, demonic.
"Sure, whatever. But for free? Not happening," she said, waiting for him to make an offer.
"Well... I could bring you to my school! They might be able to help with... um, a better future? And they pay students weekly 75$" He managed a hopeful smile.
She thought it over. A better future, and money? Maybe even more... dinner options. "Alright, deal. Take me to your school."
Makoto let out a huge sigh of relief and hugged her in excitement, completely missing the eye-roll she shot his way. They walked through the dark forest toward Mixieho Middle School, deep within the haunted trees. Gothic and ominous, the building loomed ahead with tall, rusty fences. As they entered the gates, children playing in the yard went quiet, their eyes wide with awe.
