The crisp morning air of the island greeted them as they finally stepped outside, the snow from the night before still blanketing the ground in a glistening white sheen. The sunlight filtered through the bare branches of trees. Taehyung led the way, camera slung over his shoulder, ready to capture anything that caught his eye, his cheeks rosy from the chill, all while Jungkook followed closely behind admiring the beauty of the older.
'Where to first?' Jungkook asked, adjusting his black scarf. Taehyung tilted his head thoughtfully, glancing around. 'Mmm... there's a trail that leads to a small cliffside with a view of the ocean. It's beautiful this time of year, even with all the snow. I would like to try and capture some pictures there'
Their boots crunched softly against the snow as they walked down the path, the silence of the island interrupted only by the occasional rustle of wind or the distant chirping of birds. The older took some pictures of little details along the way like the shape of a leaf frozen mid-fall and the sunlight that glimmered off the frost-coated rocks. Jungkook couldn't help but admire the way Taehyung's eyes lit up and how happy he looked trying his new hobby. The younger helped him occasionally with some suggestions based on knowledge he gained from photography class.
They finally arrived to the edge of the cliff, and the ocean stretched out before them, its deep blue color contrasting against the white of the snow-covered shoreline. Waves lapped rhythmically against the rocks, their sound a soothing melody. it felt like it just the two of them in this moment, like the rest of the world doesn't exist anymore.
Taehyung had a small smile, wrapping his arms around himself to ward off the cold. Jungkook who took the camera earlier from him, raised it and snapped a picture. 'Perfect' he murmured, lowering the camera.
Taehyung's brows furrowed. 'The ocean or me?' he joked
Jungkook grinned, 'Both'
Taehyung chuckled softly at his answer, he turned his gaze back to the horizon. Jungkook stepped closer, his breath visible in the crisp winter air. He leaned on the railing beside Taehyung. There was a flicker of hesitation in his dark eyes before he spoke, his voice quiet but steady. 'can I ask you something?'
The older glanced at him curiously. 'Sure'
'What were you like... before we met?' Jungkook's question lingered in the air, 'I mean, seeing you with your grandma, looking at your pictures, hearing her talk about you... it made me wonder'
Jungkook literally felt mad at the universe for not meeting Taehyung earlier and he wanted to know everything about him.
Taehyung blinked, momentarily caught off guard. He hadn't expected Jungkook to ask something so... earnest.
'I don't know' Taehyung finally said with a shrug, though his voice held a trace of melancholy. 'I guess I was... lighter. I smiled a lot more, trusted a lot more.' He glanced at Jungkook, offering a faint smirk. 'You probably wouldn't have been friends with me. I was a bit of a showoff'
Jungkook laughed at that, his eyes crinkling with genuine amusement. 'I highly doubt that, I think no matter what I would have been drawn to you'
The comment hung between them but the younger didn't give the barista time to overthink it, though. He tilted his head, his curiosity unabated. 'So, you used to sing?'
Taehyung exhaled, his breath fogging up the cold air. 'Ohh this... yeah, I was a kid though. it was just a silly dream, I guess. Later on I realized I wanted stability, something I could hold onto, something that wouldn't just... disappear one day'
