Fuyuki City
10th of September 2004, 4:00 AM

The early morning hours clung to the city like a thick fog, the world still cloaked in darkness as the first hints of dawn began to creep over the horizon. The streets were empty, the silence so profound it felt almost unnatural, disturbed only by the occasional rustling of leaves as the wind swept through the narrow alleys and abandoned roads. The temperature had dropped significantly during the night, leaving the air crisp and cold, with a faint mist hanging just above the ground. The shadows cast by the dim streetlights seemed longer, deeper, as if the very city itself was holding its breath. Romani walked ahead, his steps quiet but purposeful as he carried the small, sleeping form of Galateya cradled gently in his arms. She was wrapped snugly in his dark cloak, her head resting against his chest, her breathing soft and even. Her pale face, framed by wisps of light hair, was peaceful, blissfully unaware of the dangers surrounding them.

Romani kept his amber eyes sharp, constantly scanning the empty streets, his expression concealed beneath the hood that cast shadows over his features. He felt the weight of the coming confrontation in the pit of his stomach, though his outward demeanor remained calm, composed. Behind him, Rin and Shirou followed, their eyes equally watchful, senses attuned to the slightest disturbance. The brunette mage walked with her hands half-raised, ready to cast a spell at a moment's notice, the glint of magical energy subtly flickering in the air around her fingertips. Her long twin tails swayed slightly with each step she took, her eyes sharp, focused. Despite her usual confident demeanor, there was a tension in her posture, her brows furrowed as they approached their destination. The redheaded teen, on the other hand, gripped his sword tightly, his knuckles white against the hilt. His footsteps were heavier than the traveler's, a reflection of his readiness to leap into battle at any given second.

The Holy Church loomed ahead of them, its silhouette barely visible against the inky sky, framed by towering trees that seemed to sway ominously in the wind. The air grew colder as they approached, the faint sound of distant, whispering winds swirling through the churchyard. The eerie stillness that hung over the area set everyone on edge, as though something was waiting just beyond the periphery of their vision. Without warning, Romani froze in place, his boots skidding slightly against the cobblestones as his instincts screamed in alarm. He could feel it---a sudden, palpable shift in the atmosphere. The very air around them seemed to vibrate with an unnatural energy, dark and foreboding. The cloak-wearing traveler's eyes widened beneath his hood, his heart rate spiking as his senses picked up on the imminent danger.

“Get back!” Romani’s voice was sharp, filled with urgency as he spun on his heel, twisting his body to shield Galateya. In a swift, fluid motion, his free hand shot out, fingers spreading wide as he summoned his magic. A glowing barrier materialized in an instant, shimmering gold, crackling with power as it encased the group in a protective shield.

Not a moment too soon. A barrage of magenta energy projectiles shot through the darkness, hurtling toward them with deadly precision. The balls of raw magical energy collided with Romani’s barrier, exploding in bursts of violet light. The sound of the impact echoed through the empty street like thunder, the ground beneath them trembling from the force. The barrier rippled under the pressure but held firm, shimmering with an ethereal light as the dust and smoke began to settle. The source of the attack revealed itself as the dust cleared. Floating gracefully in the air above them, with an expression of smug satisfaction, was Caster. Her violet robes billowed out behind her, her staff glowing ominously in her hand, pulsing with the same deadly energy that had just been unleashed. Her cold eyes gleamed with malicious delight as she hovered in the air, surveying the damage. But what made Rin's and Shirou’s hearts sink was not just the sight of the Caster-class Servant. Standing beside her, shackled by invisible chains of magic, was Saber.
