"You know where I'm from."

WHEN VICTORIA WOKE UP, the first thing she noticed was the empty space beside her. JJ wasn't there. Confused, she lay still for a moment, letting the haze of sleep wear off. Reaching for her phone, she squinted at the bright screen. 12:00 PM.

"Seriously?" she muttered, tossing the phone onto the bed.

Dragging herself out of bed, she made her way downstairs, expecting to find JJ lounging on the couch or raiding the fridge. But the house was eerily quiet.

He wasn't there either.

"What the fuck?" she whispered to herself, her voice sharp in the silence.

The events of the previous night drifted back to her in fragments-his mischievous grin when he'd invited her to smoke, their laughter echoing in the living room. And then, like a punch to the gut, it hit her.

She had almost slept with JJ fucking Maybank.

Victoria moved toward the front door and noticed it was slightly ajar. Her stomach tightened. JJ had left, and she knew for a fact it wasn't her who had forgotten to lock the door. She always locked the doors, especially when she was alone. Always.

After shutting and locking the door with a sharp click, she headed to the kitchen. Her stomach grumbled, a reminder that she hadn't eaten since the chaotic events of last night. She opened the fridge, scanning its sparse contents.

Her culinary skills were limited, to say the least. Scrambled eggs, toast, sandwiches. Those were her specialties. Pancakes were hit or miss, and when they missed, they were downright disasters. With little hope, she rummaged through the shelves but came up empty-handed.

She sighed, resigning herself to her limited options, when her phone suddenly rang, vibrating loudly on the counter. The screen lit up with "Dad ❤️❤️" in bold letters.

"Hey, Dad," she answered, lifting the phone to her ear. Her voice softened as a smile tugged at her lips.

"Hey, sweetie. How are you?" came the warm, familiar voice on the other end.

"I'm good," she said, yawning mid-sentence. "Just woke up, actually."

Her dad chuckled. "Ah, I hope I didn't wake you."

"No, no. I needed to get up anyway," she reassured him. "How's work? Still keeping you glued to your desk?"

Her dad let out a tired sigh. "You have no idea. I've been swamped. It's like every time I clear one thing off my plate, three more get added."

"Sounds exhausting," Victoria said, leaning against the counter. "When do you think you'll be able to visit? It's been forever."

There was a pause before he answered, his voice heavy. "I'm not sure, Vic. Things are just... really hectic right now. I'll try to come in a few weeks, though. I promise."

Victoria bit her lip, hiding her disappointment. "I get it. I just miss having you around, that's all."

"I miss you too, kiddo," he said gently. "I'm really sorry I haven't been there. I'll make it up to you, okay? We'll do something fun once I'm back."

She smiled at his sincerity. "You don't have to make it up to me, Dad. Just being here would be enough."

"Still, I owe you. How about I take you anywhere you want? A little vacation, just the two of us?"
