Mary Schmidt was in the kitchen when she first heard her daughter Quinnsezl's cries. Rushing over, she found Quinnsezl huddled on the couch, her face streaked with tears. The sight of her daughter's pain twisted Mary's heart, and she knelt beside her, wrapping her arms around her.
"Sweetheart, what's wrong?" Mary asked, her voice gentle but urgent.
Quinnsezl sniffled, her lip quivering. "Makayla... she... she bullied me at school today," she stammered. "She called me names, and when I told her to stop, she just laughed..."
Mary felt a flash of anger surge through her. Her protective instincts kicked in immediately. "No one gets to treat my daughter like that," she muttered to herself, her voice hardening. "Don't worry, Quinnsezl. I'll take care of it."
Within the hour, Mary was standing in the school's hallway, her steps firm and determined. She was a mother on a mission, and she wasn't going to let this slide. Her heels clicked sharply against the floor as she made her way to the classroom where Makayla sat.
Inside, the teacher was addressing the class when Mary walked in, causing the room to fall silent. "Excuse me, Mrs. Thompson," Mary said, her voice steady but carrying an edge. "I need to speak with you about something important. My daughter was bullied by one of your students today."
The teacher looked at her, startled. "Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that. Who was it?"
Mary turned her gaze toward the back of the room, her eyes locking onto Makayla, who had been staring at her with an expression that wavered between defiance and nervousness. Makayla’s posture immediately stiffened when Mary approached her desk.
Without a word, Mary reached Makayla’s desk and slapped her across the face. The sound of the impact echoed in the room. Makayla’s eyes widened, and she recoiled, her hand instinctively going to her cheek.
"Listen to me, Makayla," Mary’s voice was cold, each word crisp and threatening. "If you ever hurt my daughter again, I will drag you straight to the principal’s office myself." She leaned down closer, her face inches from the bully’s. "DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?!"
Makayla blinked rapidly, too stunned to respond immediately. She nodded slowly, clearly shaken by the force of Mary’s words. Mary straightened up, her eyes never leaving the girl, and she turned to leave, her heels clicking louder as she made her exit, leaving an eerie silence in the room behind her.
As she walked out of the school, her heart was still racing, but she felt a sense of satisfaction that Quinnsezl would know her mother was always there to protect her.
