Around 11:00 p.m., the guests began to leave. It had been a small gathering of about twenty people, but Agastya remained occupied, talking business with some of his cousins and uncles. As they prepared to leave, he walked them to the gate to bid them farewell.
Grandma turned to me with a gentle smile. "Riya, go ahead and change. It's been a long day for you."

I thanked her and went up to my room, rummaging for something comfortable. I changed into a silk nightgown, a gift no doubt chosen without considering my tastes. It was far skimpier than anything I'd have chosen, but there wasn't another option aside from a more modest black one that I quickly grabbed and slipped on after a quick shower. When I came back into the bedroom, Agastya was already there, working on his laptop.

He looked up, glancing over me in a way that made me uncomfortable. His gaze lingered, especially on my chest, and I crossed my arms instinctively. "Mr. Rathore," I said sharply, "my eyes are up here."
He didn't look embarrassed at being caught. Instead, he smiled, his tone nonchalant. "Oh, I know. I'm just well aware of my surroundings."

I ignored his comment, deciding not to engage further. "So, where am I supposed to sleep?" I asked flatly.
He sighed. "Look, it's not like I'm dying to sleep next to you. But there's no choice-this room only has one bed. Just stay on your side, and I'll stay on mine."
Too exhausted to argue, I agreed reluctantly. Gathering pillows, I began to build a barrier down the middle. He watched, clearly annoyed. "What are you doing?"

"Making a wall," I replied without looking at him.

"Fine, do whatever you want," he muttered, "but stay on your side."
I smirked. "Don't worry, I'd rather fall off the bed than end up on your side."
I slipped under the covers, pulling the quilt over my head. After some time, I heard him switch off his bedside lamp, and I assumed he was finally going to sleep. I waited, still, for about thirty minutes, just to make sure he was really asleep before moving a little to adjust my uncomfortable bra. I managed to unhook it without removing it completely, planning to clip it back on in the morning.
As I turned back over, I froze. Agastya was looking at me with dark, hooded eyes. I thought he was asleep! Heat rose to my face, embarrassment making it hard to breathe. "I... I'm sorry. I thought you were asleep," I stammered, barely able to meet his gaze.
He didn't respond, just kept looking at me in a way that made me want to disappear. Finally, I buried myself under the blanket, my mind racing. What was he thinking? Now he'd probably think I'd done this on purpose. I silently begged for sleep to take over, hoping I'd wake up with no memory of this encounter.
Morning came all too soon, with my phone's alarm blaring. Groggily, I tried to sit up but felt something strong holding me in place. Confused, I opened my eyes to find Agastya's arm draped over me, his hand resting on my chest. Shocked, I tried to shift, and he stirred, realizing what was happening. His eyes widened in surprise, and he looked down at his hand, which was still on my chest. He gave a slight, instinctive squeeze.
He gave a slight, instinctive squeeze, and I immediately let out a startled gasp, yanking myself back, but before I could fully react, his hand shot up, covering my mouth.

"Stop yelling," he whispered urgently, his face mere inches from mine. "It's morning, and anyone could hear us."
I glared at him, fury blazing in my eyes, and he slowly pulled his hand away. I sat up, leaning close to hiss, "You... pervert!"

He chuckled, his expression unbothered, maybe even a little amused. "Relax," he said, brushing off my anger as if it were trivial. "It was an accident. Don't get all dramatic."
"Dramatic?" I repeated, my voice low but cutting. "Only you would call groping someone in their sleep an 'accident.'"

For a split second, something like regret flickered in his eyes, but his smirk remained firmly in place. "Trust me, I'd hardly call it groping. But let's just say I'll keep my distance if it means you don't go ballistic on me at sunrise."
