It’s been a week since he left for New York. Honestly, the week was peaceful, and I kept myself busy planning the next release of my software. Tomorrow, I’ll finally move into my new apartment, as it’s Saturday. I was happy knowing I would soon live in my own place, where I could cook whatever I wanted.
But at the same time, I felt a bit sad. I knew I would miss Celine, though I made it a point to call Agastya’s grandparents regularly—they’ve been checking in on me too. This felt like the perfect time to move. When Mr. Rathore comes back, he will find his villa exactly as he’d want it: Riya-free.
I packed all my clothes and got into bed, ready to sleep.
The morning came quickly. I woke up excited because Ankit was coming to help me move. Even though I kept telling him he didn’t need to waste his weekend on my errands, he insisted, saying he didn’t have anything better to do.
After finishing my packing, I went downstairs to inform Celine that I was leaving, though I’d already told her before. She looked sad but wished me all the best.
About twenty minutes later, Ankit arrived. I said my goodbyes to Celine, and Ankit helped carry my belongings. Then we headed toward my new apartment.
The apartment had been repainted and cleaned before my move. Since I had already paid the deposit and signed the agreement, all that was left was to get the keys. Finding an apartment in Paris is notoriously difficult—you need someone to vouch for you, and the verification process is long. Thankfully, Ankit had helped make everything smoother.
I wanted to start setting everything up immediately because my OCD wouldn’t let me rest. But Ankit suggested we have lunch first. He insisted I shouldn’t stress, so I offered to cook for him instead.
I made fried rice, and when he tasted it, he was genuinely impressed. He kept praising every bite, which made me happy. Cooking is one thing I’m good at, thanks to my mom. She was an excellent cook, and I’ve learned a lot from her.
After lunch, we talked about work for a bit and then started unpacking. With Ankit’s help, it hardly took an hour to set everything up.
There were still a few things I needed for the apartment, and Ankit suggested we could go to a local market the next day to buy them. He knew places where I could get good deals.
Later, I made coffee for both of us. After we finished, Ankit said goodbye and left.
Once he was gone, I called my sister and spoke to my whole family. After that, I called Agastya’s grandparents. Even though I may not like him and he might hate me, I genuinely care for his grandparents.
After the calls, I cried a little. I missed my mom. Listening to her old voice notes on WhatsApp brought back so many memories. Sometimes, the pain of losing her feels unbearable.
I know everyone has to go someday, but her life was filled with so much misery. If even 10% of her life had been good, maybe I wouldn’t feel so devastated. But she deserved better, and God didn’t give it to her—or to me.
Lost in these thoughts, I eventually drifted off to sleep
