Jagger

"Don't make promises you can't fucking keep, old man.."

His glare told me all I needed to know: It wouldn't be my life he'd fuck up, it'd be Julia's.

"Stay away from this girl."

"He doesn't have to."

"Fighting his battles, are we?"

"I don't know who you think you are, but Jagger's an adult who can make adult decisions."

"Lawrence!"

A voice called out from beyond the bleachers. It was my biology professor and a close friend of my father's.

"Justin," Dad nodded, "Good to see you."

Justin stared at me and then Julia and back to my father.

"Likewise," he said, "What brings you out here?"

Justin was just as much of a weasel as my dad was and I knew he was going to pass me with flying colors because my father was paying him off.

"I am making sure my son is not making a fool out of me."

Justin glanced my way, "Is this about the hazing?"

Dad stared at me and then back to Julia, "Sure."

Justin shrugged, "It was no biggie. Cody was in on it."

Julia's body was stiff. I could feel her pulse practically throbbing through her.

"Is that all you need, Lawrence?"

Justin backed off and crossed his arms as if Julia and I weren't two consenting adults standing before two other adults.

"Threatening us isn't going to get you too far," Julia said, "I've battled bigger monsters than you."

I smirked, but my father didn't play around when it came to getting what he wanted.

"You know the consequences, Jagger. Don't fuck this up."

Julia

I didn't know who the hell this guy thought he was, but I could see why Jagger wasn't a fan.

Glancing over at Justin, I was even more appalled by his actions as a professor.

"You're no better," I told him, "What's in it for you?"

I felt Jagger try to tug me away, but I wanted him to stand his ground.

He tensed up and I saw his gaze drift passed his father. He wasn't there anymore, but I was.

"You can take whatever threats you have and shove them up your ass."

"And who the hell are you to talk to me like that?"

"Julia Janine Bennett."

"Well, Miss Bennett," he huffed, "I run things around here,-"

"Really? You're the president of the school? The dean? What are you? A millionaire alumni who has a pencil dick so he has to take his self-hatred out on his son?"

"You little,-"

Jagger stepped between us, angry and ready to fight.

"Get the fuck off of my field."

Lawrence smirked. Diaz was watching us and could clearly see the tension brewing.

"Yeah," the coach said as he rushed over, "Jagger, you're in! Sorry, Mr. Hayes.."

Jagger didn't budge though. If there hadn't have been any witnesses, I could have sworn he would have killed his father right then and there.

He turned to face me, "You'll be alright?"

"I'm perfectly fine," I said, feeling my heart in my stomach as we watched Justin and Lawrence walk off, "Wow..you weren't kidding about your father."

"He's a dick with ears," Jagger said, "Diaz knew him from high school."

I was happy about that. At least Jagger had one person other than me or his friends on his side.
