Jagger

"What was that?"

I walked her away from the crowd and Diaz. She was going to get herself into trouble.

"What was what?"

"You and my father going toe to toe."

"I will defend you, Jagger. Don't you know that by now?"

I didn't want her to feel like she had to.

"Stop giving me that look," she rolled her eyes, "You'd do the same for me."

"I wouldn't have before."

"Are you so sure about that? You seemed to take a great interest in wanting Eric's head on a stick not even a week ago."

She was right..

I would fight until my dying breath for her.

Julia

I didn't understand why I felt so protective of Jagger.

I didn't care anything at all for the man prior to what had happened between us—and so much had already happened.

There was certainty that even Eric and I hadn't had this much to bond over so quickly in our relationship.

"You know I was just playing along?"

Jagger smiled down at me, "What? Do you want to be my girlfriend?"

"Are you asking me?"

"I don't think either one of us are ready for that."

"What are we ready for, Jagger?"

"Hayes! Get your ass on the damn field!" Moose's voice beckoned for Jagger to rejoin the team as the questions lingered in the air.

Jagger gave me a quick kiss and then hurried off.

Heather sighed, "Wow. This is the slowest burn ever."

"You read too many romance novels."

"And you don't read enough," she sighed, "He's super into you and you're not the type to waste your breath on just anyone."

"Well, we're more alike than I thought."

"And he's probably not too bad in the sack, yeah?"

"Is that all you think about?"

"I think about food."

I laughed and then caught Jagger's gaze.

I couldn't stop staring at him and he couldn't stop staring at me.

"Oh..no.." Heather whispered, "What the fuck is Eric doing here?"

"What?"

I whirled around and frowned, my mouth practically falling off my face.

There he was, chatting it up with Justin.

But why?

Jagger

I didn't see her anymore, but I also didn't notice Heather.

Moose kept pissing me off, but he had every right to. I was there to practice, not ogle someone I just claimed as my girlfriend—a woman who I basically didn't even commit to.

I glanced around the stadium, the stands, and then back at my father who was now glaring at me as I hustled on the field.

"Better do what needs to be done, Jag.."

"Where did Heather and Julia go?"

Moose shrugged, "Bro, they're chicks. Probably walking the track—or checking out other guys."

I rolled my eyes. Julia was barely into me much less other guys.

"We're almost done," Moose smiled, "Then you can go find her."

Julia

"What does he want?"

I didn't want to hide. I wanted to run him over with my car.

"Hey.."

Eric's voice echoed through my ears like a horrible nightmare banshee.

"What the hell do you want? You should be in jail for assault?"

"I'm just here to say I'm sorry and tell you that I've started school here."

"NO..."

"Excuse me?"

"You can't just...be here..."

"This is also a good school and I planned on going next fall."

"You didn't. You're lying."

I watched Justin and Lawrence eyeing me.

"Do you know them?"

"Justin's a professor of mine, yes."

"Eric..."

"I won't mess with you," he said, "I just want to tell you,-"

"What the fuck is this?"

Jagger pulled me into him as Eric smiled, "Eric's going to school here."

"Why?"

Eric rolled his eyes, "I want to. I can. I will. I am."

The grip Jagger had on me was probably bruising and all I could see and feel was Eric's hands around my throat before I broke up with him—before I tried to tell the police what happened—before he lied and said we were into kinky sex and I wasn't..I was NOT.

"I will fucking end you if you breathe in her direction," Jagger said, "There are plenty of college's you could have gone to."

Eric smirked as we noticed Sam and Gloria running the track together.

"Another empty threat from a crazy fuck?"

I stepped closer to Eric, but Jagger pulled me back.

"He's not worth it, sugar," Jagger said, "You heard me, asshole. I will end you."

Eric shrugged, "All I wanted was to say I was sorry—to both of you."

"Well, you said it," I scowled, "So leave."

Eric frowned when he saw Moose and Cody making their way over to us.

"Not so fucking brave now, are you?" Heather smirked, "Go ahead, Eric. Do something. I dare you."

Eric held his hands up in surrender and shook his head.

"Losers.."

Walking off, we noticed him waving to Sam and Gloria—I knew he didn't have any connections with them.

"What was that?" Jagger asked me as if I had a clue.

"I don't know," I shook my head, "I don't like it, but I think your father has something to do with him being here."

"Come on," Jagger said, "We won't worry about these dick bags. I've got a surprise for you."

"What?"

Pulling me away from the crowd, Jagger leaned into my ear, "You ever had sex in a locker room?"

"Ew..." I giggled, "No..but if you turn on the showers.."

Jagger's eyes narrowed as he licked his lips and pulled me along, "Say no more."
