Eda waited under the Admiral's office. The investigation dragged on forever, and she and Serkan were interrogated many times by different officials. Even Admiral Yucel made an appearance, spreading his gloomy aura around him. Still, it seemed that he gave up on his odd vendetta against the prototype program as he agreed to continue the tests and even took Major Osman with him, which was met with everybody's openly and loudly expressed contentment.
Eda looked at her watch and tapped her foot on the floor in a slight impatience. She didn't know what was taking so long. To be honest, she didn't know anything. All information was sealed, and she got a strict order to maintain the highest confidentiality. Eda wasn't really surprised as it was a matter of national treason, and she was just a doctor. It wasn't anything extraordinary in the fact that no one from the headquarters discussed with her the details of the investigation. She couldn't discuss it with Serkan, either, but she doubted he knew much more than her.
Eda was happy that her court-martial case proceeded quickly without any unpleasant surprises. The verdict unanimously stated that it was self-defense, and she was cleared of all charges. At least, that ended.
The door opened, and Serkan walked outside. Eda picked up her head, looking at him questionably, when he went around her, limping slightly and slowly dragging his right leg to sit on the chair beside her. It wasn't happening too often, only if he overdid himself, and his leg was getting better every day.
"The investigation is closed." Serkan answered Eda's unsaid question. "I had to sing all of my testimonies, and everything was sealed."
"So, there is no threat anymore?" She asked with slightly raised eyebrows.
"No." Serkan shook his head, giving her the same apologetic look, as every time he told her that something was restricted information. "We can move on and continue with our work and life with no more stress."
"That's good." Eda smiled.
It was a huge relief to her to finally have this off her mind. She had enough on her plate with wedding preparations, even if Aydan and Elif took upon themselves most of the obligations and Ceren and Piril were helping whenever they could, still, it was a lot as Eda at least wanted to know what crazy ideas they were coming up with as sometimes they were getting a bit too excited and carried away. Fortunately, the last word belonged to her.
"Do you have a shift today?" Serkan asked, checking his phone. "I'm free for the rest of the day."
"No." Eda answered, getting up on her feet. "Ferit took mine so I could sign the papers in five minutes and then sit outside the door for two hours contemplating the wall paint. We can go home, but I want to check if there isn't any mail for me. You can wait by the car."
"I can go with you, I'm not handicapped." Serkan stood up with a slight pout, and Eda rolled her eyes.
"Don't push it. I want to dance with you at our wedding, and there are only two weeks left." She looked at him sternly.
"I'm fine." He shrugged, following her to the exit. "I can guarantee you that we will dance and then make love for the whole night, and after that, you can even cut off my leg."
"Serkan!" Eda exclaimed with an indignant gasp, but he only chuckled as they crossed the small distance to the dormitory. She shook her head with disapproval and ordered him in a hiss. "Wait here."
Eda quickly ran toward the building, checked the small shelf with her old room's number and took out a couple of envelopes. She went quickly through them. As she expected, the mail mostly consisted of bills and invoices and even one parking ticket. She really needed to change her correspondence address but always forgot to do it.
