The kitchen smelled like breakfast—golden pancakes, sizzling eggs, and a hint of something sweet that Izuku couldn’t quite place but definitely appreciated. He stumbled in, dragging his feet like a dragon that didn’t quite know how to use its wings. His tail swayed behind him, knocking over a chair in the process. He didn’t even bother to stop it, letting it crash to the floor as he tried to act like it was all part of his morning routine.
Inko was in the middle of flipping pancakes, looking entirely unbothered by her son’s rather dramatic entrance. "Morning, Izuku! How’d you sleep?" she asked, not looking away from the skillet.
Izuku sighed dramatically, his head still half-tilted to one side. "Mornin’, Mom... sleep was... fine, I guess." He looked down at his tail for a second as it twitched, almost knocking over a vase. "You know, being a dragon has its perks, but I think I'm still getting used to... this." He motioned vaguely, his claws flexing awkwardly.
Inko chuckled as she set the pancakes on a plate. "You're doing great. U.A.'s going to be lucky to have you." She paused, looking at him with an affectionate smile. "Are you ready for today? Big day ahead."
Izuku’s expression softened a little, but the thought of U.A. immediately triggered a twinge of anxiety. He rubbed the back of his neck, glancing at the plate of food in front of him. "Yeah, I’m ready… I mean, I think I’m ready. It’s just… hard to feel prepared when I don't know!."
Inko set a glass of juice on the table. "Well, you know what they say. A dragon’s got to eat before a big day, right?" She motioned for him to dig in.
Izuku hesitated for a moment, trying to balance his dragon instincts with the need for a normal breakfast. He didn’t want to accidentally set the pancakes on fire with his nervous firebreath. That would be a really bad start to the day. After a quick glance at his mom to make sure she wasn’t watching him too closely, he took a bite.
Inko watched him eat with that same proud smile, like she was seeing him in a completely different light. "You’re going to do great, Izuku. No matter what happens today, I’m proud of you."
Izuku paused mid-bite, suddenly feeling his mom’s words hit him a little harder than expected. He smiled awkwardly, trying not to let his eyes get too misty. "Thanks, Mom," he mumbled, swallowing the last of the pancakes and standing up. "I’ll head over to Bakugo’s now. We’ve got… a lot of work to do."
Inko nodded and gave him a quick hug. "Good luck, sweetheart. And remember, you don’t have to be perfect. Just do your best."
Izuku waved over his shoulder as he left, muttering to himself, "Perfection? Yeah, I’m gonna need all the help I can get."
As he stepped outside, he couldn’t shake the feeling that the day was going to be way more complicated than a simple exam. But at least he had Bakugo in his corner. That was something, right?

Izuku waved at a few girls and boys as he walked, all of them calling out good luck wishes for the U.A. entrance exam. His smile was polite, but his mind was already drifting. Before he knew it, he turned around to find a small crowd of admirers trailing behind him, shouting encouragements, , and offering more wishes than he could count. It was like he was leading a parade, but there was no float and definitely no confetti.
A sigh escaped him as he slowed his pace, but the crowd wasn’t letting up. He shot a bored look over his shoulder, then, with a resigned shrug, picked up the pace into a run. “I swear, if this gets any worse, I’m going to need a disguise,” he muttered, his heart not really in it anymore.
It wasn’t like this was anything new. Ever since his quirk started to show signs of life, people couldn’t get enough of him. To be fair, Izuku had a lot to deal with—especially when everyone around him was obsessed with his dragon side. The whole thing was overwhelming. But he wasn’t exactly going to stop them. The fan club was already in full swing.
