---Chapter 25.5: History Unfolds
The ancient ruins echoed with Lucky’s voice as she paced, beer bottle in hand, recounting the tales of Star Island’s past. Vapor and Rosie sat cross-legged on the stone floor, listening with varying levels of attention.
“So, let me get this straight,” Vapor interjected mid-story, “you’ve lived through all of this, saw your kingdom fall, and now your coping mechanism is to chug beer and throw shade at teenagers?”
Lucky shot him a glare. “I’m immortal, not invincible, Vapor. A girl’s gotta have her vices.”
Before she could continue, Mira suddenly materialized in the middle of the room, looking as casual as if she had just walked in from a coffee shop.
“Hey, everyone!” Mira greeted cheerfully.
Rosie blinked. “Oh, hi Mira!”
Vapor waved lazily. “Sup.”
Lucky froze, her beer halfway to her lips. “Hold up—how in the world did you get here?”
Mira shrugged with an innocent grin. “Don’t worry about it.”
Lucky stared at her, bewildered. “No, no, I am going to worry about it. You don’t just appear out of thin air in ancient ruins! Did the Mystical Rocks bring you here? Did you teleport? Walk? What?”
Mira simply smiled. “It’s not important. Continue your story.”
Lucky groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose. “Fine. But I’m not dropping this.” She sighed and turned back to Vapor and Rosie.
---
The Evish-Starcatchian War of 1615
“It all started in 1615,” Lucky began. “The Evish people, my people, lived peacefully on Star Island for centuries. Then, the Starcatchians arrived. Mira, your ancestors.” She gestured at Mira, who raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
“The Starcatchians were ambitious, power-hungry settlers who believed the island’s resources—particularly the Mystical Rocks—were theirs for the taking. Naturally, the Evish resisted. What followed was the Evish-Starcatchian War. It lasted a year, and it was bloody. My father, King Evinas, led the charge, but we were outnumbered and outgunned.”
Rosie leaned forward. “And you? Were you fighting too?”
Lucky hesitated, looking down. “I was too busy searching for the White Mystical Rock, hoping it could turn the tide. But when I found it, I was cursed with immortality instead. By the time I returned, the war was over… and we had lost.”
---
The Evish Genocide
“The Starcatchians weren’t satisfied with just winning the war,” Lucky continued, her tone darkening. “They wanted to ensure the Evish people would never rise again. What followed was a systematic genocide. Millions of my people were slaughtered. By the end of it, only a fraction of us remained. Today, there are barely two million Evish left in the modern day, and there was probably less than 200k during back in the days, and in the modern day There are probably more around the world, I think that's how your parents met, Vapor.”
"Huh?" Vapor said confusedly
Mira looked uncomfortable but remained silent. Vapor raised a hand like he was in class.
“Question,” he said. “Didn’t anyone fight back? Like, rebellions or something?”
Lucky nodded. “There were rebellions, but they were crushed. The Starcatchians were relentless. They renamed the island ‘Star Island’ to erase any trace of the Evish heritage.”
---
The British Occupation (1898)
“Fast forward to 1898,” Lucky said, taking a swig of her beer. “The British arrived, drawn by the island’s strategic location and resources. They claimed Star Island as their own, treating the Evish and Starcatchian descendants as second-class citizens.”
“Wow,” Rosie muttered. “They really went for the colonial bingo card, huh?”
Lucky smirked. “You could say that. But their rule didn’t last long.”
---
The American Occupation (1945)
“After World War II, in 1945, the Americans took over,” Lucky continued. “They were more organized than the British but just as exploitative. They used Star Island as a military base and a resource hub.”
Vapor raised an eyebrow. “And the Evish? Still treated like dirt?”
Lucky nodded. “Pretty much. By then, the Evish were barely a footnote in the island’s history. But something changed after the war.”
---
Philippine Occupation (1946-Present)
“In 1946,” Lucky said, “the Americans handed Star Island over to the Philippines as part of its independence agreement. And for the first time, the island began to thrive. The Filipino government recognized Star Island’s unique culture and granted it autonomous status.”
Vapor grinned. “And now we’ve got tourists coming in droves, hotels popping up everywhere, and even our own representative at the UN. Star Island is finally getting the recognition it deserves!”
Lucky smiled, a hint of pride in her eyes. “And that’s thanks to people like you, Vapor. Your deeds have put Star Island on the map.”
---
Vapor’s Sass
Vapor leaned back, smirking. “Yeah, well, someone’s gotta do it. Can’t let an immortal princess and a beer bottle handle everything.”
Lucky chuckled. “You’re impossible.”
Rosie elbowed Vapor playfully. “Don’t let it go to your head, hero.”
Vapor grinned. “Too late.”
---
A Parting Thought
As the group prepared to leave the ruins, Lucky turned to Vapor. “You’ve done more for this island than most people could in a lifetime. But remember, the Mystical Rocks are fickle. They give power, but they also take it away.”
Vapor smirked. “Yeah, yeah. But as long as they don’t mess with my hair, we’re good.”
Rosie groaned. “You and your hair.”
Lucky laughed, shaking her head. “You’re a strange one, Vapor. But maybe that’s exactly what this island needs.”
Vapor,Mira and Rosie Returned home, Satisfied with the Information they had gathered
