"Come on, Audrey? Look at it already!" Lyla shouted from outside the bathroom.
I fidget my shakey fingers against the satin on my dress. How much trashier does it get... I'm in the bathroom of our wedding venue taking a pregnancy test because it just 20 short minutes I'm walking down the aisle. Would this be considered a shotgun wedding?
We already have a kid together and we've been engaged for 3 years now. I can't believe it's been 3 years since Luke was born. Life got busy and we got comfortable. We didn't feel the need to get a paper to confirm our love but it just felt right to do it now. We converted a small bit of our vineyard into a wedding venue and decided we would "break it in" with our own wedding celebration.
"I literally just peed on it! Give me a minute!"I shout playfully at her from inside the bathroom.
"Ughhhhh!" She says let out a long drawn out impatient groan.
"And I'm not telling you before I tell Dean anyways so if it's positive or negative. You won't even know! I'm only doing this to see if I can drink at the wedding!" I shout back at her.
I place the thin pregnancy stick on the counter. It's the kind that are basically paper and nothing fancy. We've had a few scares so now I buy them in bulk so I can test whenever I want or need. Call me crazy but I like knowing ever since I went twelve weeks without knowing with Luke.
"Oh come on! Your face won't be able to hide it from us!" Josie piping into the conversation.
"Maybe I'll wait to look at it then. See you nosey nellies can't play nice!" I threaten.
"You wouldn't! You're itching to know too! You're like 3 days late and it's either stress from the wedding or a big ol fat bun in the oven that Dean left inside you." Marilee teases.
"It's just stress. This happens to me all the time. And anyways, we've been trying for a baby since Luke was 1. I don't think more kids are in the cards for us. Luke's birth really put a lot of stress on my body. It's just not gonna happen for us." I sigh grabbing the test without glancing at it and then opening the door.
"I'm sorry, Audj...I know you've been really trying for another baby..." Lyla sighs and rubs my shoulder.
"It's okay. It's just getting really old taking pregnancy test after pregnancy test and it's negative every time." I shrug my shoulders and then flatten my dress out and fluff it clearly just fidgeting more.
"You never know...it could be God's wedding gift!" My mother chimes in from across the room with a teasing comb in hand.
"You say that every time I test, Ma. It's a birthday gift. It's an anniversary gift. It's Luke's birthday gift. I don't think God gives out gifts." I chuckle and shove the test upin my pocket.(yes this dress has pockets...and it's amazing)
"Well, look at the test and see then! Show us! Dean can wait 20 minutes before he knows. He's fine." Kacey begs.
"I'm gonna wait...ya...I'm gonna wait until after the ceremony. I wanna enjoy it and not be depressed that what could've been isn't." I softly grin at the decision.
Josie melts in her chair in disappointment.
"You're a tease... you know that?" Kacey pouts while rubbing her own pregnant belly.
"Don't you want to see if we can have cousins the same age again? Come on!" She continues to beg.
"You can wait an hour or so until I look at it with Dean. Hopefully you don't pop before then..." I giggle.
"Hey, you're the one who picked my due date for your wedding day..." She hissed jokingly.
"No, no, no! I had this date picked out for 18 months. You went and got yourself knocked up!" I fight back pointing fingers at her engorged belly.
