Some people might say connecting her songs to men is disgusting but knowing they are about helps A LOT with understanding the lyricism behind each songs so without further ado:
TTPD Facts and Fiction: Songs
1. Fortnight feat. Post.
Swifties are going back and forth with this and it's upsetting ngl. This song is NOT about Joe and it will never be. Fortnight is about Matty and how they went from lovers to just 'good neighbours' because it never would have been.
2. The Tortured Poets Department
I saw somebody say it about Travis, and I nearly collapsed in pure horror. The number of references to Matty is insane. Unless Travis is a 'tattooed golden retriever' who 'smoked then ate seven bars of chocolate' I will stand by the fact that Matty is the subject here. 'Cause Travis is an athlete, he shouldn't be damaging his LUNGS like that. Also this song was written TWO YEARS ago and Taylor and Travis didn't start dating till early March.
3. My Boy Only Breaks His Favourite Toys
Who in the world thought it was about Joe? No. No. No. Sorry, bae. 'And I'll tell you that he runs/Because he loves me.' Matty ran away like a coward, not Joe. If Joe wanted to run, he would have a long, long, long time ago. 'He saw forever so he smashed it up', her and Joe didn't stand a chance. We saw that in Midnights, he was 'losing her', why would there be forever?
4. Down Bad
I don't think there are much misconceptions about this one. We all know the story, we all know who 'beamed her up' and 'sent her back where she came from'. (PS it's Matty)
5. So Long, London
I guess Taylor has to be VERY obvious for people to know who her songs are about so here. This is about JOE and no one else.
6. But Daddy I Love Him
Oh my goodness, people. This is a song about a forbidden whirlwind romance about a guy who was 'chaos' and 'revelry'. Who else could it be about? It's about MATTY and how 'fans' were doing all sorts of this because they didn't support hers and Matty's relationship. Safe to say, I wasn't part of those 'swifties' because I had just become a Swiftie then, so I was more in Taylor's music than her love life.
(Wild theory #1: Someone even said it was about Harry because literally ONE line referenced a song of his: Kiwi
Wild theory #2: Apparently, and I quote, 'but daddy i love him is so about travis. the whole song. "went to my parents and they came around" i think they're engaged and her parents at first thought she was moving too fast.')
7. Fresh Out The Slammer
In reputation, Taylor calls Joe her 'jailor' and the one who had her in a 'golden cage', but now she's saying she fresh out the slammer and 'she knows who her first call will be to'. It might not be obvious but this song is about 'going home' to Matty after she and Joe ended. It's not about Swifties. She appreciates and loves us but we are NOT her first priority. She is human, she has connections other than us. C'mon, man.
8. Florida!!! feat. Flor.
This song is all over the place but I believe it's about the first Taylor was moving on from Joe in. If I remember correctly, the first eras tour she had to perform at after the break up was in Florida. Perhaps it's a song about her moving on and stuff in the first week in Florida and she's here in Florida hoping that Florida will help her get some peace of mine. The place, not the show.
