Scarlett was never one to show fear, she simply always carried a smile on her face no matter the circumstances. She learned how to play her role when it was time to brighten up someone's day. When her day was dim she never let anyone see, it was something she was quite good at. Her family were the only people that could see right through.
"Scarlett Knight!"
At the sound of her name echoing through the square Scarlett became frozen. She felt the world stop around her. Her nails started to dig into her palm as she had managed to bring her hand into a fist. As people started turning to her, Scarlett swallowed the lump in her throat. She started to make her way to the open aisle leading to the stage. The young girl felt all eyes on her and knew that it was time to do what she was good at. It was time to put up an act to hide away her true feelings.
From her position in the sea of mothers, Viviana brought her hand up to her chest as her eyes watered up uncontrollably. She saw how her young Scar was making her way up to the escort who waved her over. She saw the girl she had birthed walk with her head held high. She saw how she assumed her position with a neutral expression to the escort's left. Viviana knew her daughter was scared by the way she balled up her fist on the side.
"Let's give a big hand for our female tribute, Scarlett Knight!" Nina said into the microphone as Scarlett simply inhaled before quickly bringing a smirk onto her face.
Alexander was going mad inside the train. He had managed to trash his room as he sat on the floor in front of his bed with the projector in front of him. His little sister, one of his most priced possession had been taken as a piece of Snow's game. He felt himself drown in guilt as he held his knees close to his chest. Alexander had tears streaming down his face as he felt the burden of his sister's fate. He had a feeling that this was Snow punishing him, but how? The escort chose a random name, there is no way the reaping was rigged.
Scarlett was scared, she was a little girl crying inside as she saw the escort walk over to the bowl of boy names. Yet her unphased expression told her district and those watching from The Capitol the opposite. To them she looked like a brave tribute. She looked like a tribute that was already gaining sponsors by just her beauty.
"Mason Reed!" Nina called out getting the sea of boys to move aside like a wave to make room for the young boy.
Scarlett took notice of how he was smart enough to follow her act. He was taking a page from the girls book and started to play his cards. Sure enough The Capitol was loving the District 5 tributes, they were become favorites and many knew that could be an issue with other tributes.
The young five foot nine boy made his way over to take his position to Nina's right. Scarlett couldn't help but take in every feature of the boy she would be tied to for the next couple of days. She noticed how he seemed to be her age and him standing in the front with the older kids proved her suspicion.
"Our Tributes from District 5!" Nina said before Scarlett and Mason turned to each other to shake hands.
The crowd clapped for their tributes with heavy hearts. They knew that the two wouldn't return. It would be to good to be true to have two victors back to back, especially for a district like 5. A district that didn't birth Careers and especially didn't train them like those in District 1, 2, & 4.
"Happy Hunger Games. And may the odds be ever in you favor." Nina said before Alexander took a hold of the projector and with all his strength threw it towards the wall breaking it immediately.
