Nora's sleep was tumultuous, her breathing uneven as distressing images cascaded through her subconscious. She was back in the claustrophobic confines of the pods, the cold, hard surfaces enclosing her, the air thick and stifling. Her mind mercilessly replayed the memory of feeling trapped, not just physically, but emotionally—bound by the weight of Hap's expectations and the severe consequences of her actions.

In her nightmare, she relived a particularly harrowing moment—a time when Hap, driven by a blend of fear and desperation to keep her close, had punished her for a perceived betrayal. He had tied her to a chair, the ropes tight against her skin, the chair an unyielding prison as he demanded to know what she had done with a sketch she had left in New York. His face in her dream was a mask of cold fury and betrayal, his voice echoing in the dark void of her subconscious, demanding answers she couldn't give.

The memory within the dream twisted, the emotions intensifying—fear, helplessness, the desperate need to escape. Nora's sleeping form twitched and shuddered as the terror took hold, her hands clenching into fists as she fought against invisible restraints.

Suddenly, she awoke with a gasp, her body soaked in sweat, her heart pounding against her ribcage as though trying to escape. The transition from nightmare to reality was jarring, and for a moment, she couldn't discern where she was. The bedroom was dark, shadows looming like specters around her. Beside her, Hap stirred, reaching out instinctively to comfort her, his hand touching her arm gently.

"No, don't!" Nora cried out, her voice cracked with panic. She recoiled from his touch, scrambling backward against the headboard, her eyes wide with fear, not seeing the man she loved but the figure from her nightmare who had imprisoned and interrogated her.

Hap, confused and concerned, withdrew his hand immediately. "Nora, it's me. It's okay, you're safe," he said softly, trying to soothe her, his own heart racing with worry.

But Nora was trapped in the throes of her traumatic flashback, her breathing rapid and shallow, her gaze darting around the room as if looking for an escape route. "No, you can't—please, just stay away from me!" she pleaded, her voice trembling.

Seeing her in such distress, Hap felt a pang of deep pain, realizing the intensity of her fear. He moved back slightly, giving her space, his expression one of hurt and concern. "Nora, I'm not going to hurt you. It was just a dream. You're here with me, in our home," he tried to explain calmly, keeping his voice low and steady, trying not to overwhelm her further.

Nora's eyes flicked to his, and for a long moment, she just stared, breathing heavily as she tried to reconcile the man in front of her with the one from her nightmares. Tears streamed down her cheeks, a silent testament to her inner turmoil.

"I'm sorry, I just... I was back there, in the pods... and then—then you were so angry about the sketch," she managed to stammer, her voice breaking as she forced the words out, her hands gripping the sheets tightly.

Hap's heart sank as he listened, his face softening. "I'm here, Nora. I'm not him—not that man from your dream. I love you," he said earnestly, staying where he was at the edge of the bed, not touching her but keeping his presence known.

Slowly, the panic began to ebb from Nora's features, replaced by a dawning realization of her safety. Her breathing gradually normalized, and she wiped her tears with the back of her hand, the immediate fear dissipating as the familiar contours of their bedroom came back into focus.

After a few moments, she nodded slightly, still shaken but beginning to pull herself back from the edge. "I know. I know you're not going to hurt me, Hap. I'm sorry. It just felt so real," she whispered, her voice still quivering.
