In the stillness of the night, Nora stirred from a deep sleep. She felt a shift in the bed, a warmth against her back that wasn't there before. Slowly, she became aware of Hap's presence, his body pressed up against hers. He had crawled into bed with her without making a sound, wrapping himself around her as though he couldn't bear to be away from her, even in sleep.

Nora blinked in the dim light, her mind still foggy from sleep. She could feel his breath on her neck, the heat of his body close to hers, and it made something tighten in her chest. She wasn't ready for this. Not yet.

She shifted slightly, waking enough to feel the weight of his arms around her, his legs tangled with hers. "Hap?" she whispered, her voice thick with sleep but still edged with concern. "What's wrong?"

He didn't answer right away, but she could feel him burying his face into the back of her neck, his grip tightening around her like a lifeline. "I can't sleep without you," he murmured, his voice low, hoarse with something that sounded like vulnerability.

Nora's heart gave a small, unexpected jolt at his words. She wanted to pull away, to maintain the distance she'd insisted on earlier, but as his body pressed against hers, she could feel the weight of everything she'd been avoiding—their unresolved tension, his need for her, the emotional distance that had crept between them over the past few days. It felt like too much to deal with in the stillness of the night.

She closed her eyes again, trying to find some semblance of comfort in his warmth, trying to let her thoughts slow. She didn't say anything more. She couldn't bring herself to. Instead, she let the quiet surround them, and after a few moments, they both drifted back into sleep, tangled together.

In the morning, however, things felt different. The quiet of the night had faded, replaced by a subtle urgency in the air. Nora awoke to find Hap leaning over her, his body still close, his hand resting lightly on her waist. She could feel the warmth of his skin and the steady rhythm of his breath.

Before she could even fully process the moment, Hap's lips brushed against the back of her neck, soft at first, then more insistent as he kissed his way down toward her shoulder. "Nora," he murmured, his voice low and soft, filled with desire. "Let me love you."

Nora's breath caught in her throat, her heart racing as she realized what was happening. The shift between them from the previous night, the closeness, the way he had crawled into bed with her, all seemed to lead to this moment. She could feel his need, his desire, pressing against her, and a part of her wanted to give in, to let him pull her back into the comfort of their physical connection.

But another part of her, the part that had fought so hard for space, recoiled. She closed her eyes for a moment, steadying her breath. "Hap, I can't," she said softly, her voice a little shaky but resolute. "Not right now."

Hap paused, his body still pressed against hers, his breath warm against her skin. He didn't pull away immediately, his hand resting lightly on her side as though waiting for her to change her mind.

"I need you, Nora," he said quietly, his voice thick with longing. "We can work through everything else later, but I need to feel close to you again. Please."

Nora felt a pang in her chest, a mix of guilt and longing. She could feel his need, the way he was reaching out to her, and she understood it. But in that moment, she knew that what she needed most wasn't physical closeness. It was emotional space. She couldn't give him what he wanted—not yet.

She turned slightly, just enough to look at him. "I'm sorry," she said quietly, her voice soft but firm. "I need more time, Hap. Please understand."

The morning continued to unravel, the tension between Nora and Hap thickening with each passing moment. Hap, frustrated and searching for some semblance of connection, pleaded for understanding. "Please, I am trying to understand, but I still have needs," he said, his voice a blend of desperation and longing.
