~ Chapter Eleven ~
I
ignored everyone after that. Even my parents and brother as they tried to get me to talk. But I didn’t respond to anyone, afraid that if I did speak, I would just come out and say that I actually liked Devon. School past by slowly and before I knew what was going on, it was our spring break and my parents had organised a two week holiday with Devon’s family as well as Hayley’s, so I had some company of my own.
“But Mum! I don’t want to go out shopping for clothing that I already have!” I cried at her as I began stuffing my favourite hoodies and skirts into my bag.
She just stepped forward and pulled everything but my two nicest skirts and three of my hoodies out and dumped them back on my bed and stared down at me.
“You will Aza because we’re all going shopping for some spring clothing. If I have to drag Daniela and Jacob along with me just to make sure that you have to come!” she said to me and I pouted. I hated family shopping sprees. Especially when Daniel was being forced to come along as well.
“No! Don’t make them come along as well, Mum! Daniel will give me hell about what I pick!” I said to her as I stared at her, my purple eyes slowly beginning to glisten.
For some strange reason, whenever I have this same type of argument with Mum, my tear ducks just decide to work. She stared back at me and then I saw her get an idea.
“Fine then. If I can’t bring my own son then I’ll just have to bring Devon with me instead,” she said and before I could protest, she was on her phone and I heard the phone ringing in Devon’s house through both of our open windows. His mother answered it and before I knew what was going on, she walked into her son’s room and handed him the phone.
He sat up from where he had been chatting away on his laptop on his bed and held the phone to his ear.
“Hello?” I heard him reply and I cringed as my mother began explaining what was going on.
I glanced out my window and I saw him looking directly at me, a really large grin on his face as he met my gaze and replied. My mother smiled and hung up the phone before looking down at me.
“He’ll be here in a few minutes so I suggest you put on something decent for going out,” she said and with one final stare down with me, she turned on her heel and left the room.
I sighed heavily and pressed my face to my palms as I heard the doorbell ring and my mother answered it. I groaned as I got up and began searching through the clothes that were strewn all across my room for something to wear.
I finally managed to find my favourite black dress from JayJays. It had spaghetti straps and had elastic around the middle, just below the bust line. It then flowed down to just above the ground. It was really pretty and suited me no end. I sighed before quickly brushing my hair and applying a thin layer of eye liner and mascara as well as a thing layer of a very pale pink lipstick, almost a nude colour and walked out of my bathroom. I then grabbed a pair of my favourite sandals and put them on before walking out of my bedroom and down the stairs.
Devon heard me coming down the stairs and looked up at me as I walked down them. Mum turned as well and smiled at my choice of clothing. She walked over and gave me a hug.
“Perfect,” she said in a whisper before drawing away and walking into the lounge room to say goodbye to Daniel and Dad.
Devon looked me up and down once and I held back a shiver as his eyes lingered on my chest briefly and then on my lips before finally making their way up to my eyes. He smiled at me as Mum came back out into the entrance hall and we left the house.
