~ Chapter Ten ~

y knees almost gave out from under me when he told me, but somehow, I managed to keep myself upright. He kept checking up on me throughout the day, walking me to every class and even making sure that I had Hayley with me whenever he could manage it. During Maths, I turned to Hayley whilst she worked on the most recent chapter our teacher had given us.

“Did you know?” I asked her and I saw her pen pause in drawing the eight she had just been about to write. She looked up at me once before looking back down at her work.

“Did I know what?” she asked me as she continued to work on the question. I glared at her and she looked at me sheepishly out of the corner of her eyes.

“Did you know that Devon was going to say that he loved me?” I asked her through clenched teeth and in a whisper because the teacher was making his rounds through the classroom. He came over to mine and Hayley’s desk and I quickly made it look as if I was doing the work until he walked away and over to Erin’s table. I turned to Hayley again.

“Well?” I asked her, well actually demanded and she cringed at the tone of my voice.

“Well . . . Yeah I did kinda know,” she began to say and I went to interrupt her but she stopped me. “Let me finish, Aza! I’ve known that Devon’s liked you for quite some time now and I haven’t said a damn thing about it because he told me not to! He wanted to tell you himself,” she said to me and I shook my head.

“What are you talking about? Devon can’t like me. He liked that Rebecca girl,” I said throwing my hands up in frustration. Hayley shook her head at me.

“No, Aza. He never really liked Rebecca, he just found somewhere else to put all of his bent up and frustrated emotions that he had about liking his best friend,” Hayley said to me. I stood up suddenly and everyone fell quiet in the classroom.

“What is it Miss Dacia?” asked the teacher and I looked over at him. I shook my head.

“Nothing Sir. Can I be excused for a moment?” I asked him and he nodded his head and I quickly hurried from the classroom.

That was during school time. Now, now I’m at home with my bedroom door shut and with Shadow sitting beside me with his head resting on the chair beside me. I sat in the window seat, gazing towards the sky in the distance, ignoring the insistent tapping from Devon’s bedroom and then half an hour later on my door.

“Aza! Open up for God’s sake! I need to talk to you!” came Devon’s voice from the other side of the door. I glanced at the door before turning back to the sky outside. It seemed to be growing darker with my mood.

I heard a key turning and then the door flew open and the next thing I knew, Devon had his arms wrapped around me and he was pulling me onto his lap, lifting me up off of my seat. I tried to pull away from him but he refused to let me go.

“Devon! Argh! Damn it! Let. Me. GO!” I yelled at him as I pounded on his back with my fists.

But he didn’t seem to feel any of it because he just smiled and hugged me even tighter. I heard laughter from behind us and I glanced at the doorway of my bedroom and I scowled when I saw Daniel standing there with a big grin on his face.

“Daniel I’m going to kill you!” I shouted at him as he backed away and left the two of us alone, closing the door behind him which I really didn’t want him to do.
