~ Prologue ~
I sat in the back of my father's 2003 SUV and cringed as the sound of death metal came filtering out of my older brother, Daniel's headphones. I whacked him across the back of his head and he turned and glowered at me with his big blue eyes.
"Mum! Aza hit me!" he whined at our mother who sat in the front passenger seat.
I saw her roll her own set of blue eyes in the mirror of the sunshade and she winked at me when she saw me looking.
"Well you will listen to your music loud enough for others to hear. And I didn't see it, so I can't do anything about it, can I?" she said and I laughed as Daniel stared at the back of her head in disbelief.
He turned his gaze on me and I stuck my tongue out at him even though I am seventeen years old. Hey, just because I'm almost an adult, doesn't mean I have to act mature all the time.
Shadow, our black Labrador - I know, brilliant name for a black dog - stuck his head up and rested it on my bare leg. Despite the fact that it was bucketing down with rain and thunder and the occasional lightning flash, it was typical short shorts weather. Weather typical of a summer night which Melbourne hadn't had in almost eleven years now.
Dad pulled up in our driveway and opened the garage door so we could unpack what remained of our things into the house we had used to call home two years ago without getting wet.
I sighed as I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out of the car, stepping aside to allow Shadow to get out as well. He barked at me happily as he ran inside through the garage door. I chuckled as I grabbed my bag out of the boot and headed straight for my room upstairs. I heard Dad yell at Shadow about something and then Daniel saying something to him. I took in a deep breath.
"Welcome home, Aza," I said sighed as Dad's and Daniel's voices drifted up the stairs
