Samaira arranged the few belongings she had brought from her parents' home into her room. The familiar scent of her favorite shawl and a small framed photo of her family brought a faint smile to her lips, though her mind remained restless. As she placed the last item on the bedside table, her phone buzzed, pulling her attention.
She picked it up and frowned at the notification. It was an email from her college. Her breath hitched as she read the contents.
Your leave of two weeks has extended to nearly a month. Kindly confirm your attendance for the upcoming final exams for the specialization in neurosurgery.
Her heart sank. In all the chaos surrounding her life-her forced marriage, the confrontations with Advait, and the emotional whirlwind-she had completely forgotten about her exams. She had already completed her MD and was in the middle of specializing in neurosurgery. These exams, scheduled just a week away, would determine if she could fulfill her dream of becoming a neurosurgeon.
"How could I forget this?" she muttered to herself, pacing the room. Her mind flashed back to sleepless nights spent poring over textbooks, the sacrifices she had made to get here. She had worked too hard to let this mess derail her dreams.
With a determined sigh, she stepped out of her room, her footsteps resolute as she made her way to Advait's study. Whatever it took, she would convince him to let her focus on her exams.
When she reached the study, Advait was seated at his desk, engrossed in a document. The soft lighting of the room cast shadows on his sharp features, making him look intimidating yet strangely calm. Before Samaira could open her mouth to speak, Advait looked up.
"I was about to call you," he said, his voice steady but unreadable.
Samaira blinked, confused. "Why?"
Advait leaned back in his chair, his gaze unwavering. "Because I know your exams are a week away."
Her eyes widened in surprise. How did he know?
"If you don't take these exams," he continued, "your dream of becoming a neurosurgeon will remain just that-a dream."
Samaira opened her mouth to speak, but he held up a hand to stop her.
"Listen to me," he said firmly. "I want you to step out of this mess and focus on your career right now. You have your whole life ahead of you to find the answers you're looking for. But these exams? They should be your priority. I know how hard you've worked for this. Don't let anything-not even me-take this away from you."
Samaira stood frozen, her heart racing. This wasn't what she had expected. She had been ready for resistance, prepared to argue or even plead her case. But here he was, doing the complete opposite.
Advait's gaze softened slightly. "I know you hate me," he said, his voice quieter now. "And I deserve it. But don't let your hatred for me take away the dream you've worked so hard for."
Samaira stared at him, her thoughts a whirlwind. The man who had caused her so much pain was now encouraging her to focus on her future? She didn't know how to process this unexpected turn of events.
Before she could respond, Advait leaned forward and slid a bag across the table toward her. "Here," he said. "Inside this bag are all the books and materials you might need for your preparation. If there's anything else you require, just let me know."
Samaira's eyes darted to the bag, then back to him. She was too stunned to speak.
"And one more thing," he added. "You can rejoin your college from tomorrow. I've already informed the driver-he'll drop you off and pick you up on time."
Her throat felt dry as she tried to find the right words. She had been prepared for an argument, for resistance, but this... this was something she hadn't anticipated. Without saying a word, she nodded, picked up the bag, and left the study.
As she walked back to her room, her mind replayed the conversation over and over. She had entered the study ready to fight, but Advait's words had disarmed her completely. The concern in his tone, the thoughtfulness behind his actions-it was all so unlike the man she thought she knew.
Closing her bedroom door behind her, Samaira placed the bag on the bed and sat down, still processing everything. For the first time in weeks, she felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, she could hold on to her dream amidst the chaos of her life.
But as she opened the bag and started flipping through the notes and books inside, another thought crept into her mind: Why is he doing this? But whatever his motive was behind this, Samaira was more than happy to know that she could join her college again which would atleast give her a temporary escape from all this mess plus now her exams were near and all she had to do is now to put all the efforts she could. As her dream of becoming a neurosurgeon depended on these exams and as Advait said she was not going to let anyone, no matter who take her dream for which she had worked so hard take away from her. She was determined to ace her exams with good marks no matter what.
