December, 2018.

The prom was here.
And of course I had no date.
Kai, me and Aadhvita decided that we would go together.

I wore a satin full sleeves long gown, black.

Kai said she would be there by herself, so me and Aadhvita would go together.

"This is the first time I have seen you checking yourself in the mirror like 5 times now", my mom said chuckling.

"I am just taking a look at myself because I am looking good"

"Or maybe you want someone to notice you."

I looked at her from the reflection of the mirror, "Nothing like that..."

"I am your mom for a reason. And I am pretty sure that person will notice you"

I smiled, "thanks mom"

"Have a great night!"

"Thanks again!"

I left home walking to hers.

That was the night I decided to confess.
No matter what type of reply I get, I just wanted to get it out of my chest and let her know.

And that was the reason my heart was hammering in my chest.
Of course I was scared, who wouldn't be?
What if I ruin the friendship? What if we get distant?
Or even worse, what if she loathes me?

I took a deep breath, composed myself and rang her doorbell.

She opened the door wearing a white long gown with a slit under her knee.
She didn't miss the bindi.

She was looking absolutely alluring.

I cleared my throat, "Ready to go?"

She smiled, "Yes"

We walked to the Uni and I couldn't keep my eyes off of her.

When we reached the hall, it was buzzed.
Music, people talking, laughing, kissing.

Almost everyone was with their date.

"Boo!", Kai grabbed me from behind.

I got startled, "Oh god- seriously"

She laughed, "Gotchaa!", and with her Aadhvita laughed too.

"You are early tonight", I said giving her a glare.

"Yes. I couldn't be late to a prom, could I?", she said giving a twirl.

She was wearing a red wine one shoulder dress, she was looking charming too.

"Yeah right", I said rolling my eyes.

She chuckled, "I think we should enjoy now!"

"Obviously!", Aadhvita said grabbing Kai's and my arm and walked towards various foodstalls so that we could have a supper.

It really was a busy evening and I would be lying if I said I liked the crowd.

I didn't.

It was just too noisy, of course I was focusing on our conversations and all but still.

"Would you like to dance?", a guy whose name I don't know, asked Kai.

She looked at us and then said, "Yes.. yeah sure.."

I gave her a teasing smirk as she walked onto the center where all other students were dancing.

The music turned into a slow, instrumental one.

I closed my eyes, focusing on how to calm my heart down.

There are smells, various.
Smell of pizza, fruit juices mixed with all kinds of perfumes.

It wasn't unpleasant.

Aadhvita grabbed my arm, "You okay?"

"Y-yeah. Yeah. I am fine."

She looked to the center, "Wanna dance a little?"

I looked her, definitely surprised, "You want to?"

She chuckled, "Of course, why not?"

"Okay yeah sure."

I held out my hand and she took a hold of it and we stepped into the center.

Okay... Deep breathes...

She put a hand on my shoulder first and then I held her waist.
And our free hands intertwined together.

Oh my god.

"I don't actually know how to dance", I stated.

"Just sway!", she said chuckling.

I chuckled and we started swaying to the music.

Slowly, rhythmically, back, forward, side and side.

My heart even though erratic, began to slow down.

Her light giggles were the only thing I could hear, her face was the only thing I could see, her warmth was the only thing I could feel and her sandalwood perfume was the only thing I could smell.

So perfect and delicate.

Her wavy hair was brushing up against the back of my hand which was on her waist.

And it all felt too good to be true.

What was she feeling? Was she also focusing on me?
Is this a good time to confess?

There was that goofy smile on her face because we both didn't know how to dance but we still were.

I was afraid it might fade.
I was afraid I might ruin it.
I was afraid I won't be able to talk to her the same way again.

And yet... I wanted to tell her.
That, someone is there, who, may it be within a short time but grew to like you and care about you genuinely.

I gently squeezed her hand, "You know.. you are looking breathtaking tonight."

"Thank you, you are looking gorgeous! Black is definitely your colour", she said smiling.

"Thanks...", I said blushing.

Okay here it goes...

"I need to tell you something, Aadhvita."

"Yeah?"

I gently squeezed her hand again, "Just... I don't know I hope it doesn't change things between us"

"You are scaring me", she said chuckling.

My heart started exploding in my chest again.

"I like you... As in more than a friends way", I breathed out, loud enough for her to hear.

The music was still on.

She widened her eyes and then immediately her mood dropped.

Just down bad, dropped.

And I was shit scared.

She didn't even say anything.
It all happened too fast.

Before I could contemplate what was happening, she was out of my grasp, striding out of the hall.

And I stood there, trying to process.
I fucked up, didn't I?
