The duo got up from the ground. Behind them, the wall still blazed on with the explosion, lighting up the dimension from its dark threshold. Badri dusted off his clothes for the second time.
Something flew straight into his chest, knocking the wind out of him. His phone bounced off and tumbled into the snow, the screen lighting up with a remaining one percent.
Seeing this, Budh turned towards the other direction, his jaw almost dropping.
"BADRIIIIIIIIII!!!!!" screamed Khushi as she came sprinting like an inter-ballistic missile. Grabbing the hem of his t-shirt, she began showering him with a hundred slaps on his back.
"Arre chuha!" Badri yelped away, "Mera dusra janam chalu kar rahi hai kya?!"
"Hero banne ka bohot shaukh hai na tujhe?!" she continued slapping him mercilessly, when he tore away from her grip and ran off, "I'll make sure you go to auditions lying on a hospital bed!"
"Arre maaf kar dey meri ma!" Badri ran around in zig-zag motions like a snake on Red Bull, "I won't do it again! Pakka promise!"
Khushi finally caught him again and slapped his back again and again. Badri cowered on the ground, still screaming dramatically. After she ran out of breath, she leaned near his face and showed her blade-like hand,
"If you do something like that again na, chaped mar marke saari Rajnikanthgiri uda dungi!"
"Alright alright!" huffed Badri, "Help me stand up!"
She held his hand and helped him get up for the third time. He continued panting, leaning his upper body and supporting his hands on his knees. It was when Khushi noticed the other standing across. Her eyes drifted near his stomach.
A sharp pain rose in her chest.
Witnessing the living contradiction of his buried hopes, Budh muttered a prayer while closing his palms, touching his head, neck and both shoulders before folding his hands near his chest.
Throwing her hands above her sides, she ran towards him and jumped into his embrace, the impact of which made both of them collapse on the snow.
His face was streaked with tears, snot and joy.
Rolling off his chest, she held his long finger and smiled at the sky, whispering,
"I'm sorry for being mean...Budh...bhaiya"
But Budh did not reply. His arm flew over his eyes, his hoodie sleeve soaking his tears as he sniveled like a five-year old on flu.
"You believe me NOW?!" Badri ran towards them while dusting snow off his back "I told you na she's out there! And now she's-!"
Before he could finish, his friend yanked him down on the ground. The snow underneath crunched with blissful rejoice. Their dark hairs branched out against the white palette, when Khushi rolled to a corner with wrinkled eyebrows.
"Khushi" whispered Budh, sniffing as the last remnant of his desolation vanished away.
"Hmmm?" her eyelids slowly closed.
"Unfollow Deejay... please"
"Huh, never knew you were this senti" Badri turned away from his side and looked up at the brown sky.
"Police log dhang sey dhunda hi nahi!" Budh sniffed, "Everyone in your moholla called us hopeless vagabonds. When we go back home na, ek ek ke muh pey thookunga!"
"And tell them that we found her, duaon ke bina bhi"
"This is the best day of my life" Budh was moved to tears again as he pulled both the siblings towards his side, "When I fucking go home, I'll fucking write it in my fucking diary, and even on the fucking neighbour's walls in fucking capital letters and fucking tell everyone how they all called me fucking delusional till I-"
