Another Day

A few days passed, and the atmosphere in the lab had shifted dramatically. The prototype for the crystal weapon was now officially approved for further development, and the team had thrown themselves into their work with renewed vigor. I found myself spending long hours in the lab, working closely with both Floch and Levi.

Floch's enthusiasm was contagious; he was eager to learn and contributed fresh ideas that helped us refine our designs. I appreciated his energy, but every time he got too close, a part of me couldn't help but feel a pang of anxiety, always comparing his bright-eyed admiration to the quiet strength Levi exuded.

Meanwhile, Levi remained a steady presence, his focus unwavering as he monitored our progress. He seemed to take pride in the project, and every time I caught him glancing my way, my heart would race. I was grateful for his support, but it also complicated my feelings further.

One afternoon, as we gathered around the table to discuss the latest updates, Floch's voice rang out. "So, (Y/N), have you thought about what happens next after the weapon is fully developed? What will you do then?"

I looked up, caught off guard. "Well, I suppose I'll keep improving it, maybe work on other projects..."

"You should think about expanding your role, maybe even lead a team," Floch suggested, his expression earnest. "You've got the talent. I think you could really make an impact."

Before I could respond, Levi interjected, his tone firm, "Don't rush her, Floch. (Y/N) is doing well with this project. There's no need to pressure her about the future."

I felt warmth flood my cheeks at Levi's protective nature. "It's okay, Levi. I appreciate Floch's input. It's nice to think about future possibilities."

"Right, future possibilities," Floch echoed, shooting me a smile. "Maybe you'll be the one leading us into battle with the new weapons."

Levi's expression hardened slightly at that, a flicker of annoyance crossing his features. "Focus on the task at hand. We need to ensure the weapons are operational before worrying about what comes after."

"Understood," Floch replied, though I could tell he wasn't deterred by Levi's demeanor. He was undaunted in his pursuit, and I found myself conflicted between appreciating his attention and wishing for a bit of space.

As the days went on, I found myself gravitating more toward Levi. Our conversations, though brief, became more meaningful. I'd catch him watching me as I worked, his brow furrowed in concentration, and I'd find myself wanting to share everything with him—the successes, the frustrations, and my growing feelings.

One evening, as we stayed late in the lab, the others had cleared out, leaving just the two of us. I glanced up from my sketches, noticing the soft light casting shadows across his face. "You've been a big help, Levi," I said, breaking the silence. "I really appreciate everything you've done."

He turned his gaze to me, the corners of his mouth twitching upward. "Just doing my job," he replied, though I could see the warmth in his eyes.

"I know, but it means a lot," I insisted, my voice softening. "I don't think I would've made it this far without your support."

There was a moment of stillness, the air thick with unspoken words. I felt my heart race, the weight of our shared experiences pressing against us. Would this be the moment?

Just as I was about to lean in, the door swung open, and Floch stepped in, his demeanor bright. "Hey, you two! I brought snacks!"

I stepped back, my heart sinking slightly at the interruption. Floch approached with a bag of assorted treats, oblivious to the tension that had just filled the room. "I figured you'd both be here late, so I thought I'd bring something to keep our spirits up."

"Thanks, Floch," I said, forcing a smile.

Levi's expression had shifted back to its usual stoic mask, his annoyance barely hidden. "We don't need distractions. We're trying to finish the project, not snack away our time."

"Come on, Levi, live a little!" Floch laughed, clearly not taking Levi's words to heart. "What's a bit of food between friends?"

"More like a hindrance," Levi muttered, but I could see the corners of his mouth twitching again, fighting off a smile.

As Floch began distributing the snacks, I couldn't help but feel the atmosphere shift again. I glanced between them, aware of the budding rivalry as Floch continued to vie for my attention while Levi maintained his quiet composure.

The next few days continued in this manner, with Floch growing more bold in his attempts to win my affection. He would often find ways to linger near me, offering help with my work and suggesting outings, always flashing that easy smile that made my heart flutter.

One afternoon, as we took a break, Floch casually leaned against the wall next to me. "So, (Y/N), what do you think about the way things are going with the project? I mean, I think it's really impressive what you've done so far."

I felt a twinge of guilt, knowing I was becoming more aware of the attention he was giving me. "Thanks, Floch. I'm just trying to keep up with everyone else. It's a team effort, really."

"Sure, but your designs are the backbone of this. You should take more credit," he encouraged, leaning in a bit closer. "And maybe we could celebrate once the prototype is fully operational. Just the two of us?"

Before I could respond, Levi walked into the room, a subtle tension entering with him. "Celebrations are unnecessary until the work is done. Focus on the prototype," he stated, his tone firm yet somehow protective.

I noticed Floch's demeanor shift slightly at Levi's arrival, though he quickly recovered. "Right, work first. But afterward, (Y/N) and I should definitely celebrate, don't you think?"

I felt my heart race at the unspoken challenge between them. "Floch, I—"

"Enough," Levi cut in sharply, his eyes narrowing slightly. "(Y/N) will decide what she wants to do after the project is completed."

"Of course," Floch replied, though there was a hint of defiance in his tone. "But I hope you're open to it, (Y/N)."

I bit my lip, feeling the pressure from both sides. "Let's just focus on the work for now," I suggested, trying to diffuse the situation.

As the day went on, I couldn't shake the feeling of being caught in the middle. I wanted to explore my feelings for Levi, but I also didn't want to disregard Floch's affections. The tension between the three of us grew palpable, and I knew I had to confront my feelings before they spiraled out of control.

That evening, as I returned home, I replayed the moments in my head—especially the one I had almost shared with Levi. Perhaps it was time to face my emotions head-on and decide where my heart truly lay, knowing that whatever decision I made could change everything.
