Doc pov:

Ren’s stubbornness never failed to amuse me, even in moments like this. He was still sore, but it was clear he wasn’t going to let me take him to the vet without a fight. The second I tried to approach him, he tensed, his body going rigid as he let out a low growl. My heart skipped a beat, but I wasn’t backing down. He needed to go, and it wasn’t up for debate.

I narrowed my eyes and growled back at him, matching his intensity. It caught him off guard, his ears flicking back in confusion. For a solid minute, we just stared at each other—him, unsure of what to make of the situation, and me, trying not to laugh at how ridiculous this whole thing was.

Finally, Ren broke the silence, his eyes narrowing as though he was trying to figure out my intentions. He was clearly still wary, and I couldn’t blame him—he had been through a lot. But I knew he was starting to trust me, even if just a little, and that was enough for now.

"I’m not going to hurt you, Ren. We’re going to the vet, just to make sure you’re alright," I said softly, trying to ease him.

But that didn’t help. No matter how many times I tried to coax him, he wouldn’t budge. In fact, he backed away from me a few steps, still growling lowly, his body tense. I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose. I couldn’t exactly drag him to the vet—he’d never let me.

I glanced around the house, my mind working through the problem. I didn’t have a leash or collar for him, so I was left with one option: carrying him. This wasn’t ideal by any means, and I knew there was a risk he might bite me again if I wasn’t careful. Still, I wasn’t going to let that stop me. He needed medical attention.

"Alright, buddy. You leave me no choice," I muttered under my breath.

With a deep breath, I moved cautiously toward him. My movements were slow, deliberate, giving him every opportunity to back out if he wanted to. To my surprise, he didn’t retreat this time—he just eyed me, his body stiff.

I bent down, using a bit of force to lift him. Ren tensed as soon as I picked him up, growling softly, but I kept him close to my chest, ensuring he couldn’t squirm away. I could feel his muscles tense, and I mentally prepared myself for a possible bite, but to my relief, he didn’t strike. Instead, he just let out a frustrated huff, his tail flicking restlessly as I cradled him in my arms.

I carefully carried him to the car, hoping he’d stay calm enough for the drive. As I opened the door and settled him in the back seat, I kept a hand on him to reassure him, my heart pounding a little faster than usual.

The entire ride was quiet, except for Ren’s occasional soft whine, as though he was still unsure about the whole situation. But, little by little, I could feel the tension in his body slowly start to ease. It was going to be okay. He was going to be okay.

When we finally arrived at the vet, I took a deep breath. The hard part was over. Now, it was just about making sure Ren got the care he needed. And I was going to be there for him, no matter how difficult the journey was.

As I stepped out of the car, I could feel the tension in the air between Ren and the whole situation. I had already made the appointment, preparing the vet staff for what they were about to deal with—an injured, distrustful wolf who might not take too kindly to their approach. But as I opened the car door and Ren lazily got out, it was clear he wasn’t exactly thrilled about the whole ordeal. He huffed loudly, his body language making it clear he wasn’t in the mood for more handling.

“Yeah, I know, buddy,” I muttered, almost sympathetically, watching as he slowly walked in behind me, his steps deliberate but not exactly eager.

The staff inside the vet office had clearly been briefed, and they treated Ren with the utmost care, moving around him with slow, non-threatening movements. But as much as they tried to be gentle, Ren wasn’t fooled. The cautious way they circled around him didn’t sit well, and I could tell he didn’t like being reminded that he was injured and vulnerable. As the vet techs moved toward him, trying to offer a calming touch, Ren shot them a look that was full of annoyance—a look that caught me completely off guard. I couldn’t help it; I burst out laughing.
