The next day dawned bright and peaceful, the sunlight streaming through the delicate curtains of their room. Jungkook stirred awake first, his heart lighter than it had been in months. He quietly dressed, wanting to enjoy the morning air in the gardens he had grown up playing in.
Stepping outside, he was greeted by the familiar sight of blooming flowers and chirping birds. The tranquility was comforting, reminding him of simpler times before the palace and its complexities. He wandered toward the koi pond, a favorite spot from his childhood, and knelt by the edge to watch the fish swim lazily in the clear water.
Unbeknownst to him, Taehyung had woken as well. Noticing Jungkook's absence, he followed the path he had seen from their window. When he reached the garden, he paused, watching Jungkook from a distance.
Jungkook looked serene, his yellow hanfu fluttering slightly in the breeze, the morning light casting a soft glow around him. Taehyung found himself captivated by the sight, his heart stirring with an emotion he couldn't quite name.
Taehyung also freshen up and went towards him .
"You're up early," Taehyung said, his deep voice breaking the silence.
Jungkook startled slightly but quickly turned to him, offering a small smile. "I wanted to see the gardens before we leave. They've always been my favorite."
Taehyung stepped closer, his gaze flickering between Jungkook and the pond. "It's peaceful here. I can see why you love it."
There was a moment of silence as they both stood by the water. Finally, Jungkook gathered his courage and spoke, his voice soft but steady. "Thank you for coming with me. It means more than you know."
Taehyung glanced at him, his expression unreadable. "You shouldn't have to thank me for something like this."
"I know," Jungkook said with a small nod. "But I'm still grateful. I know how busy you are."
Taehyung's lips pressed into a thin line as he considered his next words. "Your family... they truly care for you. It's good to see you with them."
Jungkook smiled wistfully. "They've always been my anchor. Being here reminds me of who I am outside the palace."
Taehyung hesitated, then finally said, "You're stronger than you think, Jungkook. You don't need anyone to define who you are."
Jungkook blinked, caught off guard by the rare compliment. He searched Taehyung's face for any sign of mockery but found only sincerity. "Thank you," he said softly, his heart warming at the unexpected kindness.
As the morning went on, preparations for their departure began. Jungkook's parents fussed over him, ensuring he had everything he needed for the journey back. His mother pulled him aside for one last word of advice.
"Remember, my son, love is built on patience and understanding. You've always had a giving heart, but don't forget to guard it too."
Jungkook nodded, hugging her tightly. "I'll remember, Mother. Thank you."
When they finally boarded the carriage, Jungkook leaned out of the window, waving to his parents until they disappeared from view.
The ride back to the palace was quiet but not tense. Jungkook felt lighter, his parents' love still lingering in his heart. He found himself stealing glances at Taehyung, wondering if the alpha had also felt something shift during their visit.
Taehyung, on the other hand, was deep in thought. The warmth and openness of Jungkook's family had left an impression on him. It was a stark contrast to the formality and coldness of the palace, and he couldn't deny the admiration he felt for Jungkook's ability to remain so kind and genuine despite everything.
