Jordyn's pov.
"Mom? Mom, what's going on? Where's Carter?" I asked as mom frantically tore apart our apartment. "Hey what's happening?!" I finally yelled and she stopped panicking for a minute. "I can't explain right now baby but we need to get out of here." She said and I stared at her like she was crazy, "without Carter? Are you insane?" "Jordyn, listen to me, we have to go, it's not safe. Carter will be fine, we'll come back for her." Mom said. "Get your stuff, hurry!" Mom continued and I ran to the room I shared with my twin sister Carter and quickly shoved mine and her stuff into a bag. And with that we disappeared.
After that I realized why we had to go so quickly, the news was plastered with Carter's face everywhere. "Kidnapped child returned after thirteen years.." I read the article aloud from my phone and mom frowned, "they're lying. You and Carter are my daughters." "it says here that the family wrote a book.. Losing Lyndon. Is that.. Is that what they called one of us? Lyndon?" I asked and she ignored me. "You realize this is crazy right?" I asked and she turned to face me rather sharply, "Jordyn. Enough." I stared at her for a moment, her stance was stiff and her eyes darted around dangerously. This wasn't like her. The irrational.. The crazy.. This wasn't like our mom. None of this could be right.
Carter's pov.
"This is a mistake. Did you call my mom? Can I please just talk to her?" I tried but the lady (susan) from CPS wouldn't budge. "What about Jordyn?" I asked finally and the FBI agent Dawson sighed, "her name is really Mackenzie Wilson. Your name is Lyndon Wilson. You were both kidnapped at age 3 from your front yard in Great Falls, Virginia." "I'm telling you that you guys are wrong. I know that the FBI is like really good at being the FBI but you're wrong. Me and Jordyn are just regular girls." I tried again. Agent Dawson passed me a picture of my mugshot, "this is you from last night. And this is you, thirteen years ago. Your ears, dental records, and fingerprints match." I stared at her blankly, "I don't believe you." "well that's up to you. But the truth is clear. You are Lyndon Wilson and your real parents are here." Susan said and I stood up abruptly, "I don't want to meet these people. I'm telling you that this isn't real."
Two people barged into the room, a blonde woman and a shorter man with dark brown hair. "Hi.." she breathed out and stared at me with eyes that pleaded with me to be who she needed me to be. I hated to be the one to break her hopes. "Do you remember me at all?" She asked and I shook my head and stepped out of her grasp, "no. I'm sorry." "I'm your mom. Elizabeth." She said and I didn't say anything. "Hi. I'm your dad, David." "I figured." I said shortly. "Did they find who took her? The monster?" Elizabeth asked the FBI agent and I furrowed my eyebrows, "she's not a monster!" The agent passed the photo over towards them and David gasped, "we know her."
Just then, David and Elizabeth's eyes scanned the rest of the empty room, "where's Mackenzie? You said that you found the girls." Elizabeth asked frantically and Susan sighed heavily, "it would seem that Lori still has Mackenzie." "But she's alive?" David asked hopefully. I stared at him confused, "please stop calling her that. Her name is Jordyn. And of course she's alive, why wouldn't she be?" Elizabeth stared at me, "you mean that you've seen her recently?" I nodded, "yesterday.. What is going on?" David put his hand on Elizabeth's shoulder, "we have been under the impression that Mackenzie died ten years ago." "Why?" I asked and David looked back at the CPS and FBI agents, "the police found the body of a five year old girl who matched Mackenzie's description about ten years ago.." "So you thought that she was dead all this time?" I asked and they nodded. "But you still had hope that they had found her after all this time?" I asked and David smiled softly, "we never gave up the dream of having you two back."
The car ride was awkward as Elizabeth was on the phone, barking orders like a cop. "She sounds like a cop." I commented and David smiled, "she is. She's a detective." "Of course she is." I snarked. "So my mom was your friend?" I asked, trying to change the subject. Elizabeth grimaced and David sighed, "we didn't know her that well. She said her name was Janet and she always commented on how cute our little family was." "I remember her remarks about how it was such a shame that I couldn't spend more time with my girls." Elizabeth said, pausing her phone conversation for a minute. "You didn't pay attention to us?" I asked and David cut in, "She was busy Lyndon, providing for the family."
