Carter's pov.
I didn't know if Jordyn was going to set up another meet. I couldn't even tell her that I was in a coma and that's why I missed it. Elizabeth made me apologize to all the cops in the precinct for my 'middle finger stunt'. Personally apologize by the way, it took me all day.
So by the time I made it to Bird's I was done with life. Oh and now I had a 10 pm curfew courtesy of super-mom. "I personally apologized to every meatheated cop in the building, but is Elizabeth happy? No." I complained. "That's because Elizabeth is only happy when she's got a gun pointed at your head and telling you to kiss the wall." a new voice contributed to the conversation. "Crash!" Bird chirped and jumped into his arms. "Hey baby bird," he cooed and hugged her back. He sat down on the couch next to me. "Gabe, Ofe, what's up. Hi, I saw you earlier." He said directed at me. "Yes hi." I said. "I'm Crash." "Carter." We stared at each other for a second before Gabe cleared his throat and Ofe made a face, "here we go.." "You know she just got out of the hospital because of your ratchet molly." Gabe said and I rolled my eyes. "I'm sorry you were in the hospital but who told you it was my stuff? Was that you Ofe?" He said and Ofe gulped, "i got a lot of little baggies in here. I should start labeling them." "I don't want my name on a bag of drugs," Crash said. "Everyone else's then. Yours will be the blank ones." Ofe said and Crash shook his head at his antics. "What's the plan tonight?" Crash asked and I looked down at my phone, "well I have to go home." "It's not even 10." Crash said. "Yeah thankfully. You know how Elizabeth was at the police station? Well she's worse at home." I said. "Oh yeah then you should definitely go. I'm sure the last thing you want to do is make that woman angry." Crash said and I smiled, the idea forming on my lips.
We all filed into the house and Elizabeth looked pissed. Just because I had to be home at 10 doesn't mean the party has to end right? "You remember Crash right?" I asked and she looked about ready to explode. The group settled in around as Max brought food home from the grocery store. Crash looked around, "your place is nice." "Eh, not really mine. I mean according to the FBI this is where I live but.." "Wait wait.. FBI?" he asked, confused and I stared at him bewildered. Did he really not know? "Ever hear about the girl who was found after she was abducted 13 years ago?" I asked and his eyes widened, "that was you?" I nodded. "My sister is still out there, with my mom. And I'm stuck here with the wild huntress, intent on ruining her. The only thing I want is to be home with my real mom and my sister." "That's all I want too, minus the sister part.." Crash said and I smiled.
I went to talk to Bird and Crash disappeared somewhere. But later I heard the commotion, well I heard David. "What's going on?" I asked and David sneered at Crash, "this idiot was teaching your little brother how to roll a joint." "Is that true?" I asked Crash but he just shrugged, "he's twelve." "Get out of my house. All of you!" Elizabeth shouted. "And you can never have anything to do with him again Carter, do you understand me?!" Elizabeth shouted at me and I narrowed my eyes. Call it inner rage but I did not respond well to being yelled at. I walked over to Crash and smiled, "it was nice to meet you." Before making out with him, intently. I stopped and turned to face Elizabeth, "Do you understand me?" Crash and everyone else left shortly afterwards.
Jordyn's pov.
"We should move again, we've been here too long." Mom commented. "Isn't it dangerous? Staying this close to her?" I asked and mom nodded, "yes but I can't leave her. It's Carter." I understood it. It was pathological but our reality. "How are we gonna get her back?" I asked and mom smiled, "I have a plan for that one." Mom handed me a hat and oversized hoodie with a cryptic smile.
We went to the farmer's market and I saw Carter for the first time in weeks. She was walking with a man. "That's David Wilson," mom filled in the blank and I couldn't take my eyes off Carter. "I need you to follow them from a distance honey. David can't see you, neither can Carter right now." Mom explained and fixed the cap over my dark hair. I nodded and followed them from the various food stands, not wanting to make myself known yet but desperately yearning to talk to Carter for just a second. Carter and David talked about the story that mom had told us of our birth father, the handsome stranger she met while backpacking in Europe. The Urban fantasy model. I got back into the car and mom followed them to a house. "Is this.. Is this where they live? Where Carter lives now?" I asked and mom nodded.
Carter's pov.
David and I spent the day at the farmer's market, we actually got to bond a little more. Although it was strange, the whole day it felt like someone was watching me. Mom and Taylor made some fancy dinner but tried to kick out Max so I dragged him upstairs after yet another round of Carter vs. Elizabeth. The neverending battle it seems.
After school the next day I went into the parking lot and Crash was standing there by his car. "You're mad at me," he stated. "No shit." I retorted. "Can I apologize?" he asked and I nodded, but kept walking away. "Standing still?" He asked and I stopped and turned around. "I was an idiot and trying to impress you," he said and I crossed my arms, "how would teaching my twelve year old little brother how to roll a joint impress me?" "Like I said, I'm an idiot." he said again. "I know I blew my chance-" he started but I cut him off, "says who?" "Elizabeth.." he said and I smirked, "exactly." I got in his car and we drove away.
Moral of the story: bad boys steal cars and break hearts.
David picked me up after Crash dropped me off on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, and ran from the cops in the police chase for the car he stole. I called him 'dad' for the first time (which was weird), and we hugged for the first time (which was even weirder). Maybe having a dad wouldn't be so bad after all. But all this bonding just made it harder to face the idea of leaving them.
