"Come on, gang... don't do me like that. You can't let 'em take you out this early," Makai said quietly, sitting on the curb with Tyrone twitching involuntarily in his arms.

He felt a flicker of hope when Tyrone's eyes fluttered open, blinking a few times. But that hope vanished just as quickly as it came when his eyes closed again, and he let out one long, final exhale.

In that moment, all the noise around them seemed to fade into nothing. The sirens, yelling, & chaos all blurred out. Makai barely registered the paramedics approaching until one of them gently asked him to let go of the body.

That's when it finally dawned on him. His best friend was gone and he was still there. And all their friends that should have been there, scattered off when the police arrived.

They attempted to question him, but he couldn't hear them. He wasn't going for that anyway.

The only voice he could make out was Tyrone's echoing in the forefront of his mind. It wasn't until he looked down that he noticed his light grey Adidas sweatpants were soaked in blood. So was his once white tank top. He looked down in attempt to at least wipe his body off a little.

Except when he tried he came to the haunting realization that his arms weren't there. Neither were his legs. Thats when he noticed his pant legs were empty.

He realized his face was wet and his vision blurred with tears. He tried to wipe them away, but nothing happened. Just tears mixing with the blood on his cheeks and spilling down his chest and his stomach turned. Gagging, he threw his head back, and a pool of blood poured out of him.

He tried to get away, but all he could do was roll around on the ground in agony, helpless without any limbs to escape the tragedy.

Jolting awake, Makai opened his eyes to see the sunlight pouring in from his windows. With a groan, he draped his arm over his eyes to shield them from the harsh light.

Turning over with his eyes still closed, he reached out to hold Ciyana, craving the comfort of her presence. But he was only met with the disappointing realization that she wasn't there. He was alone in his bed.

Experiencing dreams like this was his mind's way of trying to make sense of whatever it was his body never got to heal from. All those built up things like grief, guilt, fear, and pain demanding to be felt.

Your adolescence is crucial in brain development because that's when it is in its final stages of forming the parts that handle emotions, decision-making, and relationships. The experiences you go through during this time shape how you see yourself, others, and the world around you.
