THE WET SQUELCHOF MEAT slapping against the ground was not a pleasant sound that morning to any of the trio's ears. Valentina walked ahead of Dustin and Steve, choosing to ignore the boy that she'd awakened tangled up with just a few hours ago. Dustin's ignorance was simply collateral damage.
Another squish interrupted the silence. Valentina stepped awkwardly over the wooden planks on the old railroad, avoiding a dingy nail and a pile of something she really hoped wasn't fecal matter. A few moments later, Dustin gagged and she grumbled. It was fecal matter.
"Ugh, what's that smell?" Steve asked. He was looking at Valentina when he asked, and the girl sent him an offended look when she turned around and caught him.
"It's not me!" she defended, sharply turning away from him again. "If anything, it's the teenage boy who didn't shower last night."
Steve watched her head shake, a shudder running through her bones. The way her blonde strands of hair swayed from side to side behind her enthralled the boy. He didn't realize he was staring until Dustin spoke up.
"In that case it could still be you, judging by the way you two were-"
"I don't smell!" Steve shut him up quickly. The silence ensued.
The smell passed a few minutes later, though the thought of crap still lingered in Valentina's mind. She blamed it on the fact that she'd barely gotten any sleep last night and Dustin woke her and Steve up at the ass crack of dawn. She wondered if Demogorgons could poop. If it looked like normal, human poop, or if it was some weird, gooey, interdimensional turd.
"Did Dart ever shit?" she asked aloud. Dustin had informed her that morning that D'Artagnan was the name of his pet demogorgon. She considered up and leaving after that conversation. Her head quirked to the left to see the young boy's reaction, which was nothing less than pure shock—and a little disgust.
"Like... poop?"
Her eyes rolled. "No, like eat your cat... Yes, like poop!"
"Hey!" Dustin pointed at her. "We don't bring up Mews, okay?" When Valentina didn't answer, Dustin looked between her and Steve with a higher sense of intensity. "Okay?"
"Okay," Valentina exaggerated, rolling her eyes again.
"Alright," Steve grumbled. He looked back to Valentina's hair when she turned around, the waves swinging to her left side and revealing the right side of her face for just a second. He missed it as soon as the hair fell back in place.
Another beat passed before Valentina asked again, "So?Did he ever take a shit?"
Dustin grumbled something under his breath before responding. "No, he never took a shit. Why, you wanna wipe his ass?"
"Does it even have an ass?" she wondered. Her mind couldn't stop exploring the possibilities of what these creatures were like. It was the only way to keep her mind from y to the darker possibilities of the creatures.
