The soft clicking of a clock filled the silence of the room, each tick amplifying the tension between the two figures seated inside. The human, Zack Barnes, leaned back slightly in his chair, his tired eyes fixed on the other occupant. Across from him sat Sir Pentious, a snake-like demon with a flamboyant Victorian aesthetic, his reptilian eyes narrowing as if analyzing Zack's every move.
The room was sparse, with only a couch, chair and a small table separating them. Some stuffed animals of various kind were tossed aside. The flickering light of a single bulb above cast eerie shadows, highlighting the absurdity of the situation.
Sir Pentious broke the silence with a theatrical hiss, leaning forward on the couch he lounged on.
"Why can't I have my Egg Boiz join me in this?" His voice was a mix of entitlement and annoyance, the kind of tone only a self-proclaimed villain could muster.
Zack blinked, unfazed by the request. He rested his arms on his lap, his fingers laced together.
"Would you feel better if you had them with you?"
Pentious's demeanor immediately shifted, his tail coiling and uncoiling with excitement. "Yessss. Very much so!" He would say. "My henchmen follow me everywhere to help with my evil biddingsss, and they shall stay by my side during my...therapy sessions."
Zack sighed, running a hand through his hair as he stood up. He walked to the door, his movements slow and deliberate, and opened it. "Come on in guys Your boss wants you."
A sudden clatter of tiny feet echoed through the hallway as four egg-shaped minions, the Egg Boiz, tumbled into the room in a chaotic frenzy. Each wore a little suit and hat, their wide, beady eyes brimming with energy.
"Boss! We're here, Boss!" One of them said, throwing the Cobra Snake a salute.
"You need us to sabotage something, Boss? Blow something up?" Another asked, juggling sticks of unlit dynamite.
"Or create a diversion?" A third offered, darting around the room as if scouting for potential devious opportunities.
The fourth cracked his knuckles menacingly. "Yeah! Who do we mess up today, Boss?"
Sir Pentious waved his claws dramatically, his voice booming with mock authority. "No, no, none of that. We are here for my...emotional growth, as required by Missss Morningstar!" He gestured at Zack with an exaggerated flair. "Misssster Barnes here is supposed to guide me on my..." He flicks his tongue out as if he tasted something bitter. "-path to redemption!"
The Egg Boiz froze, exchanging bewildered glances as if Sir Pentious had just announced his retirement from villainy.
"Emotional growth?" One of them asked.
"Redemption?" Another echoed, his tone dripping with disgust.
As one, they muttered. "Lame."
Zack rubbed his temples, muttering something under his breath about patience. It had been four days, four long days since Charlie Morningstar, Princess of Hell and Daughter of Lucifer, pulled his soul from his body back in Boulder. Four surreal days since he agreed to help her run her Hazbin Hotel as the official 'Redemption Therapist.' The former alcoholic had to make quite the adjustment, which was proving to be a rather herculean task.
The residents of the hotel were a parade of chaos. Former humans who died to their vices and bad choices, twisted into monstrous forms wandered its halls. A flamboyant spider demon, a hyperactive cyclops and a grumpy alcoholic cat were just the tip of the iceberg. Zack had seen it all, and yet every day still managed to throw something new at him. Today, it was Sir Pentious.
