The deafening boom of an explosion rocked the nearly destroyed structure that Zack and the others found themselves on. Gun fire, screams, burst of maniacal laughter and utter chaos raged below. Pieces of debris would fall from above upon the heads of everyone. Charlie clutched her hair, eyes darting frantically between the ongoing demon turf war below and Vaggie, struggling to understand how this could possibly qualify as a trust building exercise.
"This is how you learn to trust people!?" She shouted, her voice nearly lost in the uproar.
Below them, the battle was in full swing. A cactus like cowboy demon in spurred boots and a tattered poncho, twirled his pistols with a manic grin. "YEE-HAW! BRING IT ON, BITCH!" He hollered before unloading a volley of bullets.
Across the street, a punk demon with a neon green mohawk and a sleeveless leather jacket let out a mad cackle. "I CAN GO ALL NIGHT, BABY!" He yelled, swinging a spiked bat and colliding with another demon.
Vaggie stood tall, standing on the edge of the building, her single eye gazed down at the scene below, spear in hand, lips curling into a grim smile before snapping her attention to everyone on the roof.
"Listen up, maggots!"
Her boots clicked against the roof top as she paced like a drill sergeant.
"There is NOTHING stronger than the trust between comrades in arms!" Her voice was sharp, cutting through the sound of chaos below as she pointed at the scene below. "Buckle up, buttercups, because today you boys become men!"
At that moment, another explosion tore through a nearby structure, sending a column of fire and debris into the sky. Zack threw himself behind cover, breathing hard as bits of rubble rained down around them. His heart pounded against his ribs like a drum, every muscle in his body was screaming at him to run. He felt and heard something fly by him as it ricochet off the wall.
"Jesus Christ!" He gasped, barely able to form words.
Vaggie turned her gaze on him, unfazed. "He isn't going to save you, not down here."
Zack looked at her, eyes wide and mouth agape, trying to say something but was unable to even think coherently. This was madness. What was she wanted them to do? Charge everyone into battle? He wasn't a soldier.
Vaggie's sharp gaze landed on Sir Pentious, who was slowly backing away, his long tail slithering towards the stairwell in a desperate attempt to flee.
"You!" She barked, taking a step toward him.
His tongue flicked out in alarm, claws raised defensively. "W-Wait! I cannot fight without my Egg Boiz!"
Her voice was cold and resolute. "You're gonna survive together."
Before he can even utter another word, she grabbed the oversize demon serpent and hurled him off the rooftop.
His horrified screech echoed through the air, growing fainter as he plummeted toward the battlefield below.
Charlie's eyes went wide with panic. "VAGGIE!"
But Vaggie wasn't done.
Her attention snapped to Angel Dust, who took an immediate step back, both sets of hands raised in surrender. "Don't even think about it! Listen, Vaggie, doll face, we can talk about this! I swear, I'll behave! I'll even sit through a real therapy session! Just don't—"
"No time for talking." Without hesitation, she grabbed him by the arm and launched him over the edge.
"FUUUUUCCCCKKKKK YOOOUUUUUUUU!" his voice trailed off as he plummeted.
