The group arrived at the train station, the air filled with the sounds of chugging engines and bustling travelers. The station itself was grand, with high arching ceilings and banners representing the various destinations the trains would take their passengers. The group was heading to the United States of Karalina (USK), a land steeped in history and progress, known for its democratic government and robust military presence.
Boarding the Train
Marcus led the way, carrying the bags he’d acquired from the market earlier. Valdrianna and Elandra walked beside him, both exuding regal poise but visibly more relaxed after the day’s adventures. Behind them, Sam trudged along, still visibly worn out, though he carried significantly fewer bags this time thanks to Alara, Aislin, and Seraphine splitting the load.
“You sure you’re up for another long train ride, Sam?” Marcus teased as they reached their platform.
Sam shot him a glare. “At least I’m not the one who got crushed this morning. Twice.”
Valdrianna smirked, her red hair catching the afternoon sunlight. “He handled it like a warrior, though. Didn’t complain once.”
Elandra chuckled, brushing a strand of her dark hair back. “True, but let’s not push our luck. We wouldn’t want to break him.”
Marcus groaned. “You two do realize I’m sitting right here, don’t you?”
Sam laughed, finding some solace in Marcus’s plight as they boarded the train.
Settling In
The train’s interior was luxurious, with polished wooden panels and cushioned seats arranged around tables. The group found a private compartment with enough space for all of them. Marcus settled into one of the large seats, Valdrianna and Elandra flanking him. This time, they mercifully chose to sit beside him rather than on him.
Sam, however, wasn’t as lucky. As soon as he sat down, Alara perched herself on his lap, her tail swishing lazily. Aislin leaned against his shoulder, and Seraphine rested her head on his other side.
Sam sighed dramatically. “I can’t even catch a break on a train.”
“You love it,” Alara teased, poking his cheek.
“Yeah, sure. Loving every second of being turned into a human cushion,” Sam muttered, though a small smile tugged at his lips.
Discussion About the USK
As the train began to move, Marcus unrolled a map detailing the United States of Karalina, which stretched across a vast landmass similar in size to North and South America combined. The map highlighted major cities, trade routes, and military bases.
“It’s hard to believe this country’s only been independent for 500 years,” Marcus mused, tracing a line on the map with his finger.
Elandra leaned over, her sharp eyes scanning the details. “Revolutions have a way of forging strong nations. Their rebellion against the United Kingdom of Yurista was the catalyst for their rise.”
Valdrianna nodded. “And their military strength is impressive, especially given their technology is mid-Cold War era by our standards. They’ve turned strategy and ingenuity into an art form.”
Sam, who was trying to shift Alara’s weight off his legs, chimed in. “The president’s supposed to be a big deal too, right? George Person?”
Marcus nodded. “From what I’ve read, he’s known for his wit and his ability to balance diplomacy and conflict. The USK thrives because of leaders like him.”
