Atsushi was a bundle of energy as he dashed through the small apartment, his tiny feet pattering on the wooden floor. At only five years old, he was curious about everything, constantly asking questions and poking his head into whatever Chuuya was doing. Chuuya, ever the protective older brother, didn’t mind most of the time. But today, his patience was being tested.
“Chuuya! Chuuya!” Atsushi called, tugging on his brother’s sleeve. “Who’s coming over?”
Chuuya sighed, setting down the mug of coffee he had barely touched. “I told you already, kiddo. A friend.”
Atsushi narrowed his eyes in suspicion. “You never have friends over. Why now?”
Chuuya crouched to Atsushi’s level and ruffled his little brother’s hair, earning an annoyed huff. “Because this one’s special, okay? Be nice.”
“Special?” Atsushi tilted his head. “Like a superhero?”
Chuuya chuckled. “Not exactly, but close enough.”
Before Atsushi could barrage him with more questions, there was a knock at the door. Chuuya’s face lit up—a rare sight—and he quickly moved to answer it. Atsushi trailed behind, peeking out from behind Chuuya’s leg.
When the door swung open, Atsushi saw a tall, lanky man with messy brown hair and a smirk that immediately set off all his alarms.
“Oi, Chibi,” the man greeted, stepping inside without waiting for an invitation. “Miss me?”
Chuuya rolled his eyes but couldn’t hide the small smile tugging at his lips. “Shut up, Dazai.”
Atsushi’s eyes narrowed as he stared up at the stranger. “Who are you?” he demanded, his tiny voice filled with suspicion.
Dazai crouched to Atsushi’s level, his smirk never wavering. “And who might you be, little tiger?”
“I’m not a tiger! I’m Atsushi!” the boy declared, puffing out his chest. “And you didn’t answer my question!”
Chuuya groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Atsushi, this is Dazai. He’s… my boyfriend.”
Atsushi blinked, processing the information. Then he frowned, crossing his arms. “I don’t like him.”
Dazai feigned hurt, placing a hand over his chest. “Oh, you wound me, Atsushi-kun! How could you not like me? I’m charming, handsome, and—”
“Annoying,” Atsushi interrupted, sticking out his tongue.
Chuuya stifled a laugh as Dazai pouted dramatically. “See what I have to deal with?” Chuuya muttered.
Dazai stood and leaned casually against the wall. “Don’t worry, Atsushi-kun. I’ll win you over eventually. Everyone loves me.”
Atsushi glared up at him, unimpressed. “Not me.”

Over the next hour, Atsushi made it his mission to keep a close eye on Dazai. Whenever Dazai tried to talk to Chuuya, Atsushi would barge in with questions or demand his brother’s attention.
“Chuuya, can we play cards now?” Atsushi asked loudly, pulling on Chuuya’s sleeve while Dazai tried to whisper something to him.
“Atsushi, I’m busy,” Chuuya said, though he couldn’t help but smile at his little brother’s antics.
“Busy with 𝘩𝘪𝘮 ?” Atsushi pouted.
Dazai grinned, crouching again to Atsushi’s level. “Atsushi-kun, how about we play cards together? I’m great at games.”
Atsushi scowled. “I don’t play with strangers.”
“I’m not a stranger; I’m your brother’s boyfriend,” Dazai corrected, his tone teasing.
“You’re weird, " Atsushi muttered, stomping off to his room.

That evening, after Dazai had finally left, Chuuya found Atsushi curled up on the couch with his favorite blanket. The boy looked up as his brother sat beside him.
“Do you really like him?” Atsushi asked quietly, clutching the blanket tighter.
Chuuya sighed, brushing a strand of hair out of Atsushi’s face. “Yeah, I do. I know he’s a bit much sometimes, but he makes me happy.”
Atsushi frowned. “He’s weird.”
Chuuya chuckled. “You’re not wrong. But give him a chance, okay? For me?”
Atsushi hesitated, then nodded reluctantly. “Fine. But only because you’re the best brother ever.”
Chuuya grinned and pulled Atsushi into a hug. “That’s my boy.”
As Atsushi drifted off to sleep, he decided that maybe—just maybe —he’d give this Dazai guy a chance. But only if he proved himself worthy of Chuuya. And Atsushi would make sure to keep a close eye on him until then.
