Like a gentleman, he walked me back to my room. I smiled at him when we reached my door and gave him a kiss on the cheek. I giggled a little bit when he flushed slightly and smiled back at me. Telling him goodnight, I entered my room, closing the door behind me, feeling absolutely happy.

My mood changed when I heard crying coming from one of the beds. Tory. I slipped off my shoes and quickly as I could and went to her. Her face was blotched and tear stained. She looked up at me and then looked away, shoving her face in her pillow, not wanting me to see her cry.

I rushed to comfort her, climbing into bed with her and hugging her tight. I could feel the snot and tears on my shirt. They were wet and cold on my skin. "Tory, I've got you." Her sobs got louder as she began to let everything out. In that moment, it felt like everything she had been holding inside was finally being released.

She curls up against me, her face pressed into my chest, and I wrap my arms around her, pulling her close, as if holding her can somehow make the world feel a little less heavy. Her body trembles with quiet sobs, and I don't say anything, not yet. I just let her cry, feeling the weight of her grief in every shaky breath she takes. My hands run gently over her back, slow and steady, like a soft rhythm meant to remind her that she's safe here, that she's not alone.

Not wanting her to feel like she's falling. I don't say anything, because I know there are no words that will fix this right now. But I'm here, and I won't leave, no matter how long it takes for the tears to stop. I can feel her heart pounding against me, fast and erratic, and I know it's the same rhythm of a world that suddenly felt too big, too empty. I kiss the top of her head, softly, just once, as a promise—like a quiet vow that no matter how broken things feel, I'll hold her together as best I can.

Time feels different, slow, as the weight of loss presses down on both of us. I can hear her breathing begin to steady, the sobs slowing, and I just continue holding her, making sure she knows I'm here, that I'm not going anywhere. Her arms eventually loosen around me, but she doesn't pull away. She just stays there, nestled against me, like she needs the contact, like it's the only thing keeping her grounded. I run my fingers through her hair, keeping my touch gentle, offering the kind of quiet comfort that doesn't need any explanation.
