Even though she was unwilling, the imperial decree had been issued, and Hong Zheng had come to personally escort her, leaving her no choice but to comply.

Half an hour later, Yang Fei had been moved from the main hall of Zhongsui Palace to Ci'an Palace.

Due to the recent passing of the late Emperor, incense was constantly burned in Ci'an Palace. The moment Yang Fei entered, the overwhelming scent of sandalwood made her feel as if she might become a nun on the spot.

"Your Highness, please settle into the side hall. The incense in the main hall must not be extinguished. His Majesty's intention is for you to come to the main hall to burn incense and pray for blessings often during your stay to ward off disasters and seek the Buddha's protection."

After Hong Zheng led the people in and delivered his message, he left.

Once he was gone, Yang Fei clenched her fists tightly under her sleeves, nearly crushing the silk handkerchief in her hands.

"Your Highness," Siqi called softly.

Noticing Yang Fei's foul mood, Siqi dared not speak too casually, fearing to provoke her further.

Yang Fei took a deep breath, closed her eyes for a moment, then glanced at the incense altar in the hall.

"Since I'm here, I might as well offer incense to the Buddha."

"Yes, Your Highness."

Siqi bowed slightly and quickly retrieved the items for her.

After offering incense, they both moved to the side hall of Ci'an Palace.

Though this place was less spacious than Zhongsui Palace, it was clean and tidy, and the room wasn't too small, which made Yang Fei feel slightly better.

At least it showed she was temporarily out of favor, not completely abandoned. Otherwise, it wouldn't be this well-kept.

"Your Highness, have some tea. I heard from Jiaofang Palace that the Empress only has a minor cold and will recover soon. You shouldn't be here long."

To comfort her, Siqi brought tea and spoke soothing words.

However, Yang Fei's face remained somber as she took the tea.

"I hope she stays sick longer. The Emperor is right; avoiding her also keeps me safe."

"What do you mean, Your Highness? I don't understand," Siqi asked, puzzled.

Yang Fei lowered her eyes, "I was impulsive in writing to my father to have the officials present memorials against Zhao Fei. I angered the Emperor. It's better for me to stay out of sight for a while."

"But being moved here is an insult, and it seems strange that it's related to you," Siqi commented.

Hearing this, Yang Fei sneered.

"What's strange? Whoever dislikes me is behind this."

"Do you mean the Empress is targeting you?"

"Not necessarily."

Yang Fei played with the lid of her teacup, her eyes cold.

"Lu Yuehua isn't that cunning, but Fang Yun is. They are close. They probably teamed up against me."

Siqi was surprised and confused by this analysis.

"But Zhao Fei is so favored, with a pair of children, unmatched in the harem. Wouldn't the Empress be more wary of her than you?"

Yang Fei looked at her with a mocking smile.

"Have you heard the saying, 'When the sly rabbit dies, the hunting dog is cooked'?"
