Tobi struggled to fit in with the popular crowd. Never being able to read or fangirl or hang out with her real friends annoyed her a great deal. She was excited this morning though. After school today is when she will be going home.
She had asked Tris on many occasions if she could bring thing back to the Primordal dimension. She always received a disapproving look and a curt no.
She pulled on her uniform and wrestled her hair into a high pony tail. She opened her curtains and looked outside. She would miss this place a little, just a bit.
"Tobi, time to go darling!" Tobi's penumbra mother calls.
"Coming!" She grabs an energy bar and heads out the door.
She walks into school and by routine heads to the back of the library to sit with her "friends". She much preferred them in the real world, they were tolerable.
The day felt like forever, dragging on an eternity it seemed. Then the final bell rang, we all met up outside the gates and headed to the address Tris gave us. We knocked on the door and she opened the door.
"Come on, it's all ready" She waved them inside. Tris lead the group through her house and to her backyard, up a windy stone pathway to an old, decrepit shed. She heaved the door open and looked around.
"It's all in these, we need to move them to the exact spot where you fell" Tris explained, picking up a box and signalling the girls to follow suit. The all grabbed a box, some falling apart and some new
So the group head to the back of the school and then came across the realisation that they hadn't thought through the fact that they had no way in.
"So who is the genius that came up with this again?" Lexi asked dropping the box she was carrying on the floor.
"Come on now, I'm sure there is some break in the fence. An inter-dimensional rift causes some damage to the surrounding area. Surely some bars have been blown off or at least dented" Tris slides her weight onto one hip and looks along the fence.
"You mean like this?" Daisy asks. She points to a spot about five meters from them where a few bars had been smashed out of place and lay twisted on the floor.
"Why did the blast only effect these few bars and not the others?" Tobi asks kind of suspicious. Tris kind of looks at he with a face that groans there isn't enough time to explain but snaps off a twig from a nearby tree and begins to draw in the dirt.
Tris depicts a star with many points. Some are short and some are long and others are around the middle.
"Yeah?" She looks up. Tobi nods in reply. The group duck under the horizontal metal and into the thin layer of trees between it and the oval. There is still a little sunlight shining through the trees and the is no wind. The air is completely still. Tris looks around at the sky.
"We'll have to wait a while before I can send you off. We need Scorpio to be present."
"I still don't get why a bunch of stars are necessary . Couldn't you do it at any other time?" Angie asks looking around for the spot where the girls had appeared.
"They may be just stars but they are a sign that the Zodiac spirits have their power over the dimensions. Scorpio is the spirit of travel. He will aid you in getting home" Tris explains, setting her basket on the floor.
"Then, how did we get here? We got here a few weeks ago I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure it was Libra"
"Libra is the Zodiac of balance. She must of sensed a disturbance on her scales and sent you here." Tris pulled out a large deep velvet cloth and layed it down where we had appeared.
"I'm a Libra, so is Tobi" Lilly points out
"Technically, she is your patron Zodiac" Tris corrects
"Patron Zodiac?" Lilly asks setting down her box next to Tris's.
"The Zodiac you were born under" Tris sighs, clearly annoyed by the bombardment of questions. "For instance, I was born under Leo, spirit of law and order"
Tris unwraps an assortment of glass objects and a compass. She places them at equal distance around the circular rug. She looks down at her compass and turns following the point. She faces north and replaces the glass object directly in front of her with a glass sculpture of a scorpion about the size of her hand.
"That's that" She puts the basket and box that had the glass in it away from the slightly cultish looking circle. "Now who was carrying the book"
"Oh, me" Angie walks forward and gives it to her. Tris searches along the bottom of the book and pulls on a red book mark and the book falls to a page with a pencilled in drawing of a circle that looks like the one in front of them with inky writing all around it.
"Now we wait I guess. For the sun to set." Tris sits down and motions for the other boxes.
"What if someone sees us?" Tobi looks around nervously. They all laugh knowing Tobi's goody-two shoes habits.
"Already thought of that" Tris smiles, reaching into a box. She pulls out a grey crystal hanging on a thin plaited leather necklace. "This charm has a ten meter radius and masks vision and hearing so no one will notice you. Incipere" She says. The crystal began to glow brightly then lay still in her hands.
"There" She says, placing it back in the box.
"So how does this patron saint thing work" Lilly asks leaning against a tree
"I can't tell you any more. You lot need to forget this, all of this. If you want to be normal you have to pass it off as a bad dream" Tris looks down at the ground,
"No you have to tell us something!" Lexi shouts angrily.
"Please" Tris says, looking pained "It will be easier to forget" Tris denied any questions the rest of the time they waited, instead she watched the sky carefully. Soon the sky was dark and the stars were out.
"Okay, it's time" She pulls herself up and ushers the group inside the circle. Tris picks up the book and stands behind the glass sculpture.
"Scorpio, guide these travelers across the stars to where they came from. Grant them safe passage and your blessing. Scorpio lend your hand!"
Suddenly the wind picks up and the sky began to spin. Tobi looks at Tris who was now a blur of colour. And then the world went white.
