Summer Break

It was late July, and summer break had just started. The golden sun of the previous day had given way to a quiet, star-filled night. Inside the dimly lit bedroom, Masha and Lucifer were peacefully sleeping. Their small, shared space felt like a haven—a cocoon from the rest of the world. Masha's chestnut-colored hair sprawled out like a fan across Lucifer's chest. He lay beneath her, his long, white hair cascading around the pillow like liquid moonlight. Both breathed in unison, a soft rhythm that spoke of comfort and trust.

The tranquility, however, didn't last. Masha began to stir, her brows furrowing, and her fingers clutching the fabric of Lucifer's loose shirt. Her breathing quickened, and soft whimpers escaped her lips. She was trapped in a nightmare—a vivid, harrowing dream where Lucifer's familiar figure grew distant and unreachable, fading into nothingness.

Her arms tightened around him instinctively. The sudden pressure roused Lucifer slightly from his slumber. His piercing blue eyes fluttered open, still heavy with sleep. He blinked, realizing Masha was clinging to him as if her life depended on it. "Masha?" he murmured softly, his voice laced with concern.

She didn't respond, her face buried against his chest. Lucifer sighed, his fingers gently tracing soothing patterns on her back. He didn't know what haunted her dreams, but he knew that she found comfort in his presence. Eventually, her breathing steadied, and she seemed to calm down, though her grip on him remained firm. A faint smile touched Lucifer's lips as he closed his eyes again, allowing sleep to reclaim him.

The morning sun poured into the room through the sheer curtains, casting warm streaks of light across the bed. Masha stirred awake first, her eyes slowly opening to find herself still on top of Lucifer. Memories of her nightmare flashed through her mind, and she hugged him tighter for a moment before realizing he was awake and watching her with a curious, amused expression.

"Good morning," Lucifer said, his voice soft but teasing. "Enjoying yourself?"

Masha huffed, her cheeks flushing slightly as she rolled off him and stretched. "Maybe I am," she replied with a smirk. "You're like my personal body pillow. Soft, warm, and always here."

Lucifer chuckled, sitting up and running a hand through his long, silky hair. "I'm not sure if I should be flattered or offended," he said, his tone light.

"Flattered, of course," Masha quipped as she stood up and headed toward the bathroom. "Now hurry up! I have something planned for us today, and we need to get ready."

Lucifer arched an eyebrow but didn't argue. He was used to Masha's spontaneous plans and, truth be told, enjoyed going along with them. After breakfast, which Masha cooked—insisting Lucifer sit and relax while she took care of everything—the two of them headed out to the mall.

The bustling atmosphere of the shopping center was a stark contrast to the quiet of their home. Couples and families filled the corridors, their laughter and chatter creating a lively symphony. Masha, as always, was full of energy. She led Lucifer from store to store, her chestnut hair bouncing with every step, as she picked out household supplies and a few random items she deemed "essential."

"Lucifer, what do you think of this towel?" she asked, holding up a ridiculously fluffy pink towel adorned with cartoon bunnies.

Lucifer stared at it for a moment, his lips twitching in an attempt to suppress a laugh. "It's... cute," he said diplomatically.

"Cute? It's perfect!" Masha declared, tossing it into their shopping basket. She glanced at him mischievously. "You'd look adorable wrapped in this."

"Absolutely not," Lucifer replied, his cheeks tinged with pink. His delicate features made him look even more flustered, which only encouraged Masha.

"Oh, come on," she teased, nudging him. "With that baby face of yours, you'd be irresistible."

Lucifer sighed, knowing he couldn't win against her playful banter. "You're impossible," he muttered, though the faint smile on his lips betrayed his amusement.

After finishing their shopping spree, they stopped by a cozy cafe for lunch. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods filled the air as they settled into a corner booth. Masha ordered a hearty meal for both of them, insisting that Lucifer needed to eat more.

"You're too thin," she said, eyeing him critically as she sipped her iced coffee. "I'm going to fatten you up if it's the last thing I do."

"I'm fine," Lucifer replied, his tone mild. "You're the one who's always stealing bites from my plate."

Masha grinned, unrepentant. "That's called quality control. I'm just making sure your food is safe."

Lucifer shook his head, chuckling softly. Their easy banter continued throughout the meal, drawing a few amused glances from nearby patrons. It was clear to anyone watching that the two shared a deep bond.

As they left the cafe and began walking home, hand in hand, Lucifer's attention was caught by a small family playing in the park. A father was lifting his young son high into the air, the boy's laughter ringing out like a bell. The sight stirred something in Lucifer—a bittersweet ache as memories of his own parents surfaced. He could almost hear their voices, feel their warmth, before the pain of their absence settled in.

Masha noticed the shift in his demeanor immediately. Without a word, she tightened her grip on his hand and leaned into him, offering silent support. He glanced at her, his blue eyes filled with unspoken gratitude. She didn't press him to talk, understanding that some wounds didn't need words, only presence.

When they got home, Masha wasted no time in brightening the mood. She dragged Lucifer to the bathroom, declaring that it was time for a proper pampering session. "Sit," she ordered, pointing to a stool by the bathtub.

Lucifer complied, curious. Masha grabbed a bottle of shampoo and began working it into his hair, her fingers massaging his scalp with practiced ease.

"You're surprisingly good at this," Lucifer remarked, closing his eyes as he relaxed under her touch.

"Surprisingly?" Masha echoed, mock-offended. "I'll have you know I'm an expert at hair care. You're just lucky to be on the receiving end."

Lucifer smiled, the tension from earlier melting away. Moments like these reminded him why he felt so at ease around Masha. She had a way of making him feel cared for, even in the simplest acts.

After the bath, Masha continued her mission to spoil him. She spoon-fed him dinner, despite his half-hearted protests, and then led him to the living room where they settled in to watch TV. As the evening wore on, Masha patted her lap, signaling for Lucifer to lie down.

"Come on," she said. "You know you want to."

Lucifer rolled his eyes but obliged, resting his head on her lap. Her fingers ran through his hair, gentle and soothing, as she cleaned his ears with a small ear pick. The rhythmic motion and her soft hums lulled him into a state of complete relaxation.

"Masha," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "Thank you."

She smiled, her chestnut eyes warm. "Always," she replied, leaning down to press a kiss to his forehead.

When it was time to move to the bed, Masha didn't give Lucifer a choice. She pulled him close, burying his face against her chest. He didn't resist, too tired to argue and secretly comforted by her embrace. As they drifted off to sleep once more, the world outside faded away, leaving only the quiet assurance of each other's presence.
