"Come on Atlanta, don't you want to go eat with daddy?" I asked my daughter, as she trudged down the stairs slowly, stopping on the last one and staring at me. She lifted her arms in the air and I laughed. I walked over to her and picked her up, and she laid her head on my shoulder tiredly, her backpack handing from her back. I walked out the front door. When I get to the car, I take her backpack off her then set her in the car seat, I buckle her in then get in the drivers seat. I look back at her while I drive and see her staring out her window, I smiled slightly and go back to driving. "Daddy?" I hear her voice speak. "Yes baby doll?" I asked as I continued to drive. "Where are we gonna go eat at?" She asked. "Um, how about you pick?" I asked. She smiled, "Can we eat at IHOP?" She asked. I smiled and nodded as I drove to IHOP....
When we get to ihop, I was unbuckling her from her car seat when I noticed something. I happened to glance down at her feet and she isn't wearing shoes. "Atlanta where are your shoes?" I asked her. "I forgot them at home daddy." She said. I closed my eyes tightly as I pinched the bridge of my nose with my thumb and index finger. "Atlanta how do you forget your shoes and shh didn't you tell me earlier!" Her eyes watered and I immediately softened up and took her into my arms, rocking us back and forth. "Shh baby doll, it's okay. I'm so sorry. Daddy is so sorry baby doll, he knows you don't like it when he's loud. I'm sorry." I whispered as I kissed her head. "Please stop crying baby, daddy doesn't like seeing you cry." I whispered. She nodded and wiped her tears away with her fist. "You forgive daddy?" I asked her. She nodded. "Can you give me a hug and kiss?" I asked. She nodded again and pecked my lips and wrapped her arms around my neck. I smiled as I held her close to me. "Come on baby doll, put these on." I said as I slipped on her extra pair of sneakers I had in the car. This has happened before.....
Once we were sitting down and waiting for our food. I looked at Atlanta, and studied her features as she colored in her menu. Her brown skin, curly hair, and eyes, was everything she got from her mother. Her eyes were blue when she was little, but they changed and now she had brown eyes that sometimes looked grey, but she's beautiful. Even for a five year old. We were getting some glances our way. And I knew why. Not because I'm Justin Bieber, but because I'm a white father with a black daughter. I rolled my eyes and went back to looking at MY beauty of a daughter. I don't get why people are so ignorant and races, it's not like we're all not human. We are. We all have feelings and nobody is less than a human. No matter what color their skin is. I look at my daughter, she never notices anything, so I was really surprised when she asked me, "Daddy why are people looking at us? They looking at me to, and whispering. Not asking for you autograph." She said in her cute little voice. I don't know what it was. Anger? That my daughter actually noticed it? I don't know. "Don't worry about them baby doll, they're just ignorant people." I said, loud enough for them to hear. She nodded and went back to coloring. "Why did you color the sky green baby doll?" I laughed as I watched her color. She laughed as well. "Cause the world is colorful!" She laughed. "Well can daddy help you out?" I asked. She smiled and nodded. I grabbed a purple crayon and colored in one of the drawings of a person. She laughed again. "What?" I laughed. She shook her head, then colored the girl that was holding hands with the guy I colored, blue. "It's pretty see!" She squealed. I smiled and nodded, just then Ryan came and sat down next to her. She smiled huge and hugged him, making me smile. "You like your surprise baby doll?" I asked her. She smiled and nodded, making me and Ryan laugh. Just then our food came and we began eating....
"That will be $41.95" the lady said. I nodded and was handing her my money when I hear whispers from behind me. "That can't be his daughter can it?" I turned around to face a lady around her forties with I guess is her friend. "Yes she is, is there a problem?" I asked her. She just rolled her eyes but nodded. "Well what is your problem today mam? You know, since everybody in the world should serve you and only you." I said as I leaned against the cash register desk with Ryan as we stared at the lady from behind our sunglasses, Atlanta between us. "Is she your daughter?" She asked, pointing to Atlanta, who hid behind me. "Yes she is, and she is my biological daughter. Any more stupid questions? And don't point at my daughter, she's not an animal you go to see at the zoo." I snapped. The lady rolled her eyes once again. "I bet her mother paid you to bang her just so she can get knocked up with a celebrity's child. How much did she pay? She probably just using you for the check you know. And you end up with a colored child, so it's a lose lose scenario for you." My jaw clenched with anger. "Listen lady, it's people like you that make me sick! I don't ever want you to mention my wife like that! She is in Africa looking for cures to sicknesses that have no cures! She is getting water and cleaning it! She is helping sick and injured people and animals! She is teaching them! She is building them schools and houses! Don't ever say anything about the love of my life like that because she is making a difference! And my daughter? Really? You bring my daughter into this conversation? Is that all you see is color? Well I don't. I see people. Cause that's what everyone is! A person with feelings! She could be purple for all I cared and j would still love her! Because she's mine! She is my flesh and my blood! I made her! And yes I made love with a black girl. So what? We were married and and were ready!" I said. The lady just rolled her eyes AGAIN. "Come on baby doll, let's get away from this ignorance." I said as I picked her up and made my way out of the restaurant with Ryan following after me.
