Spring Into Summer~ Lizzy McAlpine
Crack
Crack
Crack
...
Crack.
Darla was staring at the white caps of the waves every so often, listening to the sound of them, and the sound of Nika cracking small twigs in half.
The Colombian's feet were dangling off nikas car, she was sat on the roof. Each time a small gust of wind came by she would have to drag her slightly messy hair out of her mouth and eyes, despite this, her eyes haven't left the girl bent by the bonfire.
Nikas hair was pulled back behind her ears, as she flicked the lighter on against a piece of wood, igniting the fire.
Darla didnt drag her eyes away for a second as she watched Nika bring up a hand to stop her hair from falling forward into the fire, the only light was from the moonlight, the beginning of the fire, and Nikas car headlights across the sand. As well as the only sound was from the waves, the soft hum of the engine, and the distant chatter and laughter from the nearby woods, where Paige and Kk were collecting wood.
It was awfully quiet besides that, until a Croatian girl decided to break it,
"Didn't I tell you to stop staring at me?"
Darla didn't respond immediately, she let a small smile play onto her lips, feeling a harder grin appear on one side of her face, before her tongue pushed against her cheek.
The girl sat on the roof of the car, slowly leaning back on her palms, letting her head tilt to the side. She wasn't quite sure what to respond with, and her slightly foggy from the alcohol, brain, was only clouded by one thought.
Nika
"What else am I supposed to look at, you're right in front of me." Darla spoke, her voice was awfully quiet.
Most people wouldn't have heard Darlas slightly mumbled, small words, as long as their main focus was on the fire. Nikas obviously was not.
So she heard her.
Nika let out a scoff, but she was smiling, "Oh, I don't know. Maybe the beach we're at? Or maybe you could go check and make sure Paige and Kk haven't fallen into a ditch or something?"
She tried to seem annoyed, but the Croatian couldn't stop the smile from hurting her cheeks, so she just put her head down, acting like she was still working on the fire.
The fire was already aflame though, crackling.
Darla was obviously not thinking straight, highlighted by her past actions and words in the car.
"Paige and Kk might've fallen into a ditch?" she spoke louder, words slightly slurring together both from the alcohol and the speed she said the sentence at. Nikas head moved up slowly, and she couldnt stop the laugh from falling out from between her lips.
"I'm just kidding." she said through an open mouthed smile, "God, your stupid."
"Im not stupid im just a good friend," Darla rolled her eyes, although nikas eyes were back on the fire. "But they have taken a long time..." she mumbled, low lidded eyes on nika. The girl who has been bent down throwing small twigs in her right hand out of her left hand into the crackling fire for the last couple minutes paused, looking up to Darla with a faux expression, her mouth making a small 'o' and her eyebrows raising.
