"come back"
Darla whispered the two words through a long huff of an exhale, tapping her fingers against the glass of the window.
Darla sat in Nika's empty car.
She waited, and waited, for hours,
but in reality it's only been about 10 minutes.
The car sat alone, parked outside the still-buzzing frat house. Music was blasting, loud and constant from the building. Every now and then, small groups of people would exit or enter the building, laughing drunkingly and stumbling their way through the front yard.
The car sat eerily still, a stark contrast to the chaotic atmosphere just outside. Inside, Darla sat alone, her drunken mind wandering. Nika left around 10 minutes ago to bring Kk and Paige to her car, since it was time to go.
The girls hand moved up, fidgeting with the rubber under the window before it travelled to the mirror that her fingers traced before pulling it, wanting to see her appearance.
Suddenly, something fell to the floor. Darla's eyes flickered down, noticing a small white scrap of paper next to her feet. Curiosity getting the better of her, she leaned down, picking it up.
Her eyes adjusted to the dim light inside the car as she unfolded the paper. On it was a small picture, a photo of a pretty girl with a wide smile on her face. Darla squinted, studying the picture as she tried to focus her fuzzy vision.
"Cute.." she muttered to herself, her voice a bit slurred. She took in the soft features of the girl, the way her eyes crinkled at the corners as she smiled. Darla's fingers brushed over the photo, a small pang of something - possibly jealousy - shooting through her.
She looked at the picture again, noticing that the girl sort of looked like Nika. Same dark hair, sharp nose, strong jaw.
Darla's mind began to wonder, questions swirling in her clouded thoughts. Who was this girl? What was she to Nika? Was she Nika's girlfriend?
A sudden pang of jealousy shot through her, fueled by a mix of alcohol and curiosity. Darla found herself gripping the photo a bit tighter, her thoughts racing.
She sat there, in the silence of the car, staring at the picture of the unknown girl.
Nika had finally convinced Paige and Kk to leave the frat party, Kk a bit more willing than Paige who whined and pouted the whole time.
They all stumbled towards Nika's car, the cool night air hitting their flushed faces. Nika was in the middle, supporting most of Paige's weight as she was the most drunk out of the three.
Nika had one drink, that was mixed, so she was basically fine.
"C'mon, Paige," Nika grumbled, trying to guide the drunk girl towards the car. "You're so annoying when you get like this."
Paige just giggled drunkenly, leaning her weight into Nika heavily. Kk trailed behind them, a small smirk on her face at Paige's obnoxious behaviour.
Darla's heart dropped at the sound of the backseat door opening, before she heard the drunken laughs of Paige, she looked back and saw Nika pushing the girl into the car, Kk hopping in soon after.
Nika helped Kk and Paige as they stumbled their way into the backseat, Kk was almost sober, as Paige laughed about this stupid topic, Kk pretending to be interested as she didn't quite understand half the words coming out of the blondes mouth.
