"Um...it's nothing," I say grabbing it with my other hand.
"That's not nothing," Liam says, moving my hand and rubbing the makeup off my scar.
"You were burnt..." he says, quietly.
I look away.
"How did you get burnt?"
I turn my head to him and see him staring at me.
"My house burnt."
".....I think I remember how I know you."
"How?"
"I was the one who carried you out."
I try to remember what happened that night.
"Your a firefighter?"
"Well...yeah."
"Thank you for carrying me out."
"No probs."
"I thought you were here to go to a school here, though."
"I was. I finished high school early then became a fireman."
"Why?"
"Personal reasons. Do you want some fruit," Liam asks, handing me the container and a fork.
I accept the fruits and say, "come on I told you what happened to me so, now you have to tell me."
"Your house burnt down, there's nothing wrong with that."
"There's more to the story."
"Then, tell me."
"No."
"Fine. Then, I guess none of us will know what happened to either of us."
"I guess, so then."
Liam and I finish the fruits, in silence.
Liam finally breaks the silence and says, "I have something else for us planned, help me pack up."
I help put the plate, containers and forks back in the basket while, Liam folded the blanket we were sitting on. He stuffs the blanket in the brown basket. He grabs the basket and the empty water bottles. He walks over to the nearest garbage can and tosses the plastic water bottles in, one enters in and the other falls threw to the other opening side. He walks to the other side of the garage can and picks it up, this time he places it in.
"Slick basketball moves," I say with a wink.
"Yeah, I'm a basketball superstar," he says, laughing.
"So, where are we going Mister...um..."
"Payne, my last name is Payne."
"Oh yeah, so, where are we going Mr. Payne?"
"You'll have to see."
"Aw man, I hate surprises."
"Oh, do you really?"
"Yeah. That's why when I was little, I never had surprise parties. Now, tell me where we are going?"
"Oh, your a feisty one. I like that."
"Shut up," I say punching him.
"Like, I said feisty," he says, beginning to run.
"Hey! Come back," I shout.
Liam starts to run super fast. I try to keep up with him but he was always 20 feet away from me.
I begin to lose me energy and slowing down.
