I felt my phone ringing in my pocket, I walked to the back of the shop and I picked it up.
"Hello," I say to the other end of the phone.
"Hey there lad, it's Michael. I changed my number."
"You called me at work to tell me you changed your number?"
"Well, actually, I wanted to ask you if you're free this Saturday. I know it's a bit of a late notice but, I forgot to tell ya that I'm free Saturday."
"I'm kinda already booked. Sorry, Michael. How 'bout Sunday?"
"No, can't do Sunday. I've got a shift that day. What are you doing on Saturday? Maybe, I could tag along?"
"I got a date with this girl," I answer Michael.
"Ah, that's fantastic. There's this girl I wanted to go out with. We can double date."
"No, Michael. This girl is important to me and I don't want you to mess this up, like last time."
"That was an accident besides she was the one who was walking backwards she was practically asking me to push you into her spilling all the ice cream on her. She was a drama queen anyways. I promise this time will be different. Do this for me, please? I don't want to be caught in an awkward silence. You know how awkward I am around girls."
"Fine," I sigh, "but I want some alone time with my girl."
"Sure, I just need to get a little comfortable with her first."
"Your still talking about that girl you want to go on a date with right," I ask.
"Yeah, of course."
"Don't wear anything nice on Saturday and bring extra clean clothes and towels. We're going to get a bit messy. I advise you to tell that girl of yours if you still want to date her after the date."
"What have you got planned," Michael asks.
"Messy Twister. Be at my house by 5."
"I might get there earlier."
"That would be great you can help me set up. I have to go or my boss is going to fire me."
"Bye."
"Bye."
After I was finally allowed to leave from my work, I call Laura.
"Hey, Laura. There's gonna be a slight change of plans on Saturday."
"Go on," Laura says.
"Remember that time when you asked when you're going to meet my best mate?"
"Yeah, of course."
"Well, how bout Saturday? He wants to go on a double date."
"Oh, I'm cool with that but..."
"But what," I ask her.
"But, why is it so loud where you are? Aren't you a firemen?"
"Yeah, I am, but it runs on a 48 hour shift each week so, I don't really make enough money. It's quite complicated but I also work at this diner on the other side of the town. Right now, I'm on my lunch break so yeah," I answer Laura.
"Ohhh, sorry I kinda sounded nosey and like one of those obsessive girlfriends."
"Oh, so you think you're my girlfriend," I ask jokingly.
"What? Oh shit, no. I didn't mean that," Laura says, panicking.
"You don't wanna be my girlfriend?"
"I didn't mean that! Jesus, Liam. You know, what I meant."
"Yeah, I do know, but anyways I just want to let you know that you should bring a towel and extra clean clothes on Saturday."
"Sure, but why?"
"It's a surprise but we are going to get a bit messy. Anyways, I have to go now, my lunch break is almost over."
"Bye!"
"Bye"
