Standing just in front of the stage on the side of the gym, I felt the weight of the small black notebook in my back pocket grow heavier with each passing moment, the necessity of my decision pushing down my mood. I felt as though the gym's linoleum floor would split and swallow me whole. Or maybe I was just hoping it'd do that. But that was wishful thinking, I had to choose a side, and my life would be determined from there. Swallowing hard, I gripped the handle of the broom with a vice grip, attempting to ease my nerves.

"The big corner office, a twelve-person team. A slick leather chair, the go getters dream." I turned, facing the nets left up by the boys. "My mom used to clean ritzy places like those, with their overpriced art, and their walls of degrees." Sighing, I leaned the mop against the raised stage.

"Well, now it's all mine, with my name on the door. A big, fancy desk on the 38th floor!" Walking towards the net, I spin, taking in the environment around me. "Look at the girl who did right, at the height of a hard-won career." Stopping, I look to the windows lining the top of the gym. "What could surpass, giant windows of glass framing miles of blue. That's the view from here." Turning away, I approach one of the nets' poles. "That's the view from here." Cranking the net to become slack, I unhook the bottom then the top, slowly walking over to the other side to do the same.

"They say, 'Climb the ladder, no matter the cost'. But nobody tells you how much can get lost." Turning back, I begin to roll the large white net into a shorter, more manageable bundle. "That decent and hopeful young woman you were. Well, you wake up one day, and you wonder..." Holding the net tightly, I walk back over to the stage, placing it on the raised wooden flooring. "What happened to her?" Stalking away to the middle of the gym, I laugh to myself. "That woman was made to see good in each heart," placing a hand on my back pocket, I extracted the book, turning it over in my hands, "But now she gets paid to pull people apart. And, I mean, hey! Look at me! MVP, Employee of the year."

My smile fades, "Well, maybe, I guess that this looks like success, but it doesn't feel true." Placing the book back into my pocket I walk to the closest pole, grabbing it, before pulling upwards, extracting it from the hole in the ground. "That's the view from here." I repeat this action after leaning the metal pillar against the wall, moving to retrieve the other one. "That's the view from here."

Dismantling the rest of the equipment, and gathering the carts of volleyballs, I lock everything in the storage room, my brain a whir as I work. As I grab my bag and Coach Ukais notebook, a photo falls out from between the lined pages. All the Karasuno boys stand in a messy line, sweaty and energetic, only accompanied by their coach, two managers, Kiyoko and Yachi, and teacher sponsor, Mr Takeda. I feel my heart squeeze with guilt, knowing how their confidence and goals would be crushed so quickly if I followed through.

"I could keep doing oppo, keep digging up dirt. Pretend I don't care when nice people get hurt. Block out the guilt that I'd have to ignore, for a raise, as I rise to the 39th floor." Gripping the photo and book tighter, I feel a confidence grow in me, a new determination. "Or, I can walk out this door and defiantly quit. There's a line you can't cross, and I think this is it!" I walk towards the door, a purpose in my step. "Oh, maybe I haven't lost sight of what's right, no it's perfectly clear!"

But just as I'm about to cross the threshold, I feel the passion drain from my being. "At the end of the day, words are easy to say." I glance down once again at the photo, tears glistening in my eyes, before slipping it back in the book, out of sight. "But it looks like the walking away, is a little bit harder to do..." Stuffing the notebook back into my pocket, I intake a deep, grounding breath. "That's the view.....from here."
