The gentle rocking of the spruce ship, its mast creaking each time it jumped a wave, lulled Y/N into a state of calm after the long journey home. The only noise, apart from the calm sea, was the chatter of her shipmates, her friends. The waves jumped at the sides of the large vessel, taunting her with its viciousness, its hunger. Her eyes locked onto the horizon behind them, her gaze dull and glossed over from being in a daze. But she was jolted out of her trance as a warm and rough hand placed on her shoulder.
"How you holding up against the sea sickness?" Laurence asks, coming to stand just behind her, his chest playfully bumping into her shoulder, his hand remaining on her opposite shoulder.
"I'm doing just fine, Laur." She looks at him, smiling warmly. The hand squeezes the muscle under its resting spot, gently rubbing its thumb into her shoulder blade.
"Guys, we're back!" Aphmau calls out to us and the rest of the crew, calling us over to the upper deck.
"Coming?"
"No, you go, I'll stay here till we dock." He nods, leaning forward to press a quick kiss to her cheek before turning, walking up to the stairs, meeting Garroth, both diving into conversation. Turning back, she faced the waves, her face hardened with determination and slight fear. The rocking of the boat continued as they sailed into the Phoenix Drop harbour, slowing significantly before stopping completely, lurching her off balance and forward a few paces. The loud splash behind her stilled figure signifies the dropping of the anchor. They arrived home. After several long weeks of traveling-granted they had discovered many important places and historical artifacts, it had been a grueling process-they were back on familiar soil.
Calls ring out behind, drawing her attention to a young man dressed in blue beside a man dressed in greens, both waving to the party, standing at the edge of the dock. A small group gathers behind, all familiar faces. Y/N remains rooted to her spot, clenching and unclenching her fists in anticipation. A large oak wooden plank is extended to the dock from the ship by Aaron and Garroth, its other side being caught by Levin, and secured in place of Logan.
Stepping onto the plank, a small crate fits snugly under his arm, Kenmur extends his hand to Emmalyn, guiding her carefully as she struggles with a much larger box. As they step roughly onto the dock, Aphamu, accompanied closely by Aaron and Garroth who carry larger crates, follows, holding a small box. The two boys embrace their mother as she leaves the plank, laughing as she tries to hold onto her item. Dante comes up behind the group hug, taking the box from her so she could properly return their embrace.
As the three rock back and forth in a family group, Katelyn, carrying a singular crate, steps onto the dock, followed by Travis who carries a dangerously high stack of crates. Finally, Laurance, a crate tucked securely under his arm, walks over to the ship's edge, turning and offering a hand to Y/N. She nods, crossing the ship's deck, taking his hand, squeezing it, unaware of the slow growing intensity of the ship's usual rocking. He squeezes back before turning and making his way across the plank, and she follows. But as she grasps the guardrail, placing a foot on the oak plank, she freezes, watching the water below her drastically recede. Then it all happens too quickly for comprehension.
The sea became aggressive, snapping up to the (h/c), breaking the docking board in the process, before crashing back down, rocking the boat so hard that the anchor gave out from the sea floor. Y/N's body was thrown back into the guardrails on the opposite side of the ship, and as the vessel continued to rock, she was thrown over the rails, the calls of her friends drowned out by the sudden water. Movement of the sea continued to toss and spin her around, severely disorienting her, but she fought. She fought against the current, breaking through the frigid surface, a gasp of air refilling her lungs. An invisible force persisted, attempting to drag her back, but with strong kicks of her legs and harsh movements of her arms, she crawled onto a large rock, now a few meters away from where she had fallen in.
