"Joel! JOEL!" I scream out in desperation as I resurface just beside team T.I.E.S' tower.

"What!?" He calls out, a few meters ahead of me, his crossbow loaded with a firework, aiming it just behind me.

"Y/N swim!" Grian screams at me before I dive back under the warm blue waters, anything else he cries out being muffled by the thickened atmosphere around me. Pumping my legs and angling my arms in front before pushing behind, I hurriedly glide through the water, rolling off to the side as an arrow, slowed by the denser environment, whizzes beside me. Kicking my legs, I break through the water again, coughing out some of the water that had slipped into my lungs with my uneven breathing.

"JOEL!" My desperate cry catches his attention again, his eyes widening slightly at the meaning of my scramble to get to him. I'm running out of time.

"Y/N! Get to land!" Grian cries out, shooting off a firework just behind me, deterring my pursuers. They had already lost Jimmy, they weren't about to lose me too. At least not without putting up a fight. Continuing to tread water, gaining bursts of momentum everytime I kicked my legs, my hands reached to my leather jacket, desperately ripping it off, minimizing the drag. But just before it sinks out of my reach, I grab my remaining ender pearl from its unzipped pocket, raising an arm out of the water and throwing it as far and as hard as my body would let me. Then, with a sharp tug to my boot, I'm resubmerged underwater, Pearl smiling maniacally as she pulls her sword towards me. I feel water fill my lungs in my desperate attempt to free myself from her grasp, but her hold on my shirt is too tight. That is, until she disappears entirely.

Blinking aggressively, pressing the excess water from my eyes, I cough. I cough until it feels like there is no air in my lungs. In fact it feels like I have no lungs. My vision is spotted with black dots and stars, and a sharp ringing fills my ears. If she hadn't finished me off, the water would have. Pressing my hands to my head, I cover my ears, squeezing my eyes shut, wishing this pain would cease. And for a moment, it does. The ringing subsides and the world seems to still around me. Two small pops break me out of this trance, urging the space between my eyelids to open.

Before I could register what was happening, a pair of hands pull me off of my side into a sitting position, my drenched back pressed against someone's dry shirt. The rough hands slide to my middle, squeezing me backwards, the life I had just regained seemingly being extracted from me again. Another arm is wrapped around me from the side, my head being supported by another chest, their shirt dry as well.

"C-can't...breathe!" I stutter out, both from cold and lack of oxygen, causing them both to ease their iron grips immediately.

"What the bloody hell happened?"

"Yeah! Why didn't you do that sooner!?" They both speak hurriedly, panic still laced in their voices. As I attempt to speak, another coughing fit bubbles up my throat, unable to be suppressed. More water slips into my mouth, a faint taste of blood coming with it. A warm hand gently rubs circles into my cold back, shifting around the wet material.

"Take a moment Y/N and catch your breath." I nod, rubbing my throat, an attempt to soothe the burning feeling. Closing my eyes, I suck in a deep breath, refilling my lungs.

"Joel-" My voice is hoarse, the words being squeezed from my throat. "You need to kill me."

"What!?" He yells, voice full of shock.

"Alright, let's take it back for a second-"

"They're going to kill me, or I'm going to run out Joel." I say firmly, even as my heart races in my chest, pounding against my ribcage, begging to be released.

"No!"

"Yes!"

"No!"

"Yes-"
