the dream

I was in my childhood nursery, still awake in my bed. Was this a dream? It felt so real. It was late at night and I wondered where my parents were. They must have been asleep. It was so cold, even my blankets weren't warm enough. I couldn't fall asleep, somehow. I was always a quiet child, but there was something wrong, something I knew I should reach out to help for. It was like I was being watched. Like someone was with me. There was a feeling of danger in the air, somehow.
That's when he appeared. A tall, pale man with handsome features and piercing eyes, a dazzling vision that struck the darkness like lightning. He was wearing a black kanzu, but looked like an angel, too beautiful to be real. He had a calming aura field and energy, and I couldn't feel fear. I was frozen as he closed in. He reached down
lifting me up and holding me in his arms like a child. I tried to struggle to escape him but he was holding me fast. His arms were a vice.
"Don't be scared, baby." He told me. "I've not come to hurt you. I have come to show you something important."
By his power, he took me to a secluded place, and set me down on what appeared as a white stone bench. I didn't know what was happening. He placed my small pink teddy bear beside me, and he began to talk. He was communing so rapidly, so fluently that I could understand it but not physically, as if the information was being downloaded to me. He was saying how he can use time to control the past and future. He was showing me the world through his powers. He explained how he was monitoring me. How he had travelled back in time to reach me. To protect me.
"I'm with you." He told me. He carried me back to my bed and lay me back down to sleep. Softly, he sang me a lullaby.

I woke up, my heart pounding. Tom was laying in bed beside me, a stone angel frozen in sleep, lost to the darkness. A picture of perfection. Why did my enemy have to have a forbidden, biblical beauty? It hurt to look at him sometimes. I wondered if he knew how beautiful he looked to others, how the sight was enough to knock me senseless. Or stop my heart. Both. If only he knew.

Did Tom truly know me back in time? Did he travel back in time to when I was only a young girl, before I was sent on this dangerous mission to stop him? Why would he need to go back and control me at such a young age?

It wasn't possible. I needed to clear my head. Maybe I was just exhausted. That had to have been it. Why else would I have such a strange dream? I chalked it up to the fact I was barely sleeping and mixing potions of dark magic and heavy liquor. You couldn't face reality and run away from it at the same time, that had to have been it. Yet it felt so real. Maybe Tom had casted some hex over me. I wouldn't put it past him and his wicked games that always seemed to be for his own favour. What was he playing at now? I walked down to the Slytherin Common Room, my hands trembling in fear. I really needed to relax. I just couldn't calm down, the dormant fear and panic was lodged inside me as if I was formed from stone too. How could I survive feeling like this? There was no break from this darkness that was always consuming me, always devouring me.

Sometimes I suspected that Tom only incited emotional conflict with me so the make up sex would be good. It was a toxic, twisted relationship. It was like a fight to the death in a Roman circus. A never ending free fall and fight for the glory. His sex drive was otherworldly, never satiated, despite anything and everything. It was if he could draw power from the weakness of me, getting off in the depths of darkness. I knew I shouldn't but he was always so domineering it was hard to say no. He had a way of making people become just like him. He lived in me. He was always my companion and guide.
